So, my trusty £30 ebay special Bluetooth headset has given up! Im going to buy a better quality one and looking at the scala rider solo.
My question is…
Will it connect to any model scala headset for intercom facilities or will it only connect to the same model?
What is the best one to get? Im not that fussed about having radio, I just want it to connect to my phone and be able to connect to other scala users when on rideouts for intercom use
I currently have an issue with the Cardo Sho1 and the TomTom Rider 400 where it doesn’t switch back and forth from giving GPS instructions (from Rider 400) on Bluetooth Chanel 2 and playing music/receiving calls on my iPhone (Bluetooth Channel 1).
I think the problem is with the TomTom but it is tricky to get anyone to test the problem- you feel a bit like you are beta-testing their products for them.
One other thing with Scala- I have had the wiring loom (which connects the battery module to the heading module as well as the speakers and mic) for my Sho1 replaced 4 separate times under warranty.
It is a problem with the product design (just not sturdy enough) but Cardo have been fantastic at sending out replacement looms, even outside the warranty period.
I bought 2 spares (at £30 each) so if I am off on a tour I can swap out the wiring loom in about 5 mins and be back up and running.
Other than that it works great and sounds better than any of the others I have tried.
I looked at the scala, the way I read the description was, scala one is only for you
Scala 2 is for you & pillion
Scala 3 connects to other riders
Bluetooth connection to phones
Cable connection to MP3 player
Didn’t read more than that so might not be exactly right
Unfortunately not.
Getting an intercom that does everything (multi bluetooth channels, bluetooth music, multi intercoms etc) is an expensive exercise.
To be honest the intercom thing is a bit fiddly anyway- I mostly use mine just for GPS instructions, calls and music.
I’ve used the intercom twice now and it was more trouble than it was worth.
In most cases it is easier and quicker to pull over, speak to your mates and then go on.
If I was riding pillion with Mrs Hogtrumpet then it might be different but we don’t really do that.
IMHO The Sho1 is worth it just for the removable battery- I have a few of them that I keep charged, when it gets low in power I just whip one off and put a new one on and keep going.
If they could sort out the wiring loom reliability I’d be much happier with it.
I recently bought a scala rider G9x which for the most part I find works well. I have my phone and Garmin GPS hooked up to it. The biggest pain was/is finding the right microphone position inside the full face helmet. It is detachable from the helmet, leaving the bracket in place, so easy to charge or remove to keep safe. I havent used the intercom yet though.
without wanting to hijack the thread, was the ebay one any good Sam? I’ve managed to lose the main body of the Lidl one I’d been using and looking for a cheap replacement - gets used for very occasional sat nav duties through the phone and phonecalls (mainly when my wife wants me to go to Tesco on the way home) so no need for multi channel or intercom or any of that jazz.
It was fantastic, it done everything i needed, it took calls and i could hear clearly and they could hear me, and it would control my Spotify app on my phone and also could hear stanav directions from my phone. The only draw back was when the phone rang it would auto answer after a few rings and i couldn’t let it ring out or reject calls, so every now and again i’d be riding and have to tell a PPI salesman to F+&k Off !!!
I’m 50/50 on getting the same one or going for the Scala, i’m winning the bid on a Scala at the Moment, i’m willing to pay £50 for it as it’s 2nd hand, if it goes above £50 then i will just get the ebay special one as it is only £30 and does everything i want.
This is the one i got. ebay item number- 281011760542 but my one doesn’t have the big writting on it, it’s all plain black
Nice one, that’s the model I was looking at. Think I’ll get it ordered, riding to a mates house near Gloucester at the weekend and functional sat nav would be an advantage so I don’t get lost in bandit country.
@Hogtrumpet must admit, I have not. If I’m alone I leave the thing behind.
I think Pin did once, he did not complain, so must have worked ok. but he also leaves it behind if out alone.
