Q-Park in London: Queensway bike parking status

I live in, and park my two motorbikes in Westminster; at present I don’t have a res. permit, though I use Queensway Q-Park on a daily basis.

A couple of things were bothering me:

  1. Do we have official permission to use the Q-Parks in London, and

  2. What’s happening specifically in Queensway?

  3. A search on the internet pulls up this useful page:

"For clarification, the car parks have been let to Q Park on a commercial
basis and as independent commercial tenants there is no contract with
Westminster City Council.

The leases require Q-Park to provide free motorcycle parking. "

I’m not going to discuss the £5 admin charge for a card to open the doors, which I find acceptable as a one-off payment. If anyone has trouble contacting Q-Park for this, please let me know, and I’ll provide the email address; the Q-Park page on motorcycles seems to have mysteriously disappeared.

  1. There were, up until a month ago, two levels for bikes to park; since then the top level has shut for a refurb, and bicycles and motorcycles asked to move. There are three bikes/scooters seemingly abandoned up there, with the painters working around them. I wanted to know when the work would finish, as the bottom level is now very crowded. Q Park told me the following, about three weeks ago:

-Can you please confirm that the motorcycle parking on the first floor will be restored once the refurbishment has been completed?
This should do unless anything changes.

-In the meantime, if we run out of space in the bike parking area on the bottom level, can we utilise unused car parking spaces, without penalty?
Unfortunately I cannot authorise this.

-There was planning permission put in some time ago for part of the car park to be used by a storage company. Will this go ahead?
Any changes to the car park sit with senior management and I am not at liberty to disclose any information.

Anyone with any comments / questions on the above, love to hear them.

Humbug

Q-Park got a bad rep after @Rixxy had his bike stolen from an apparently secure Q-Park and the way they handled it. I would steer clear.

Do you have the link, please?

I appreciate they’re not someplace you can forget about the security, so the bikes are always locked with an Almax chain.

The alternative of parking on the street, where my bike was knocked over twice, and vandalised by another biker, and exposed to the weather, is a lot worse.

Thanks, read through it, quite a sobering read.

One thing that I disagree with is Q-Park’s claim:

“For additional security customers will need to use their parking tickets to gain access into the car park as pedestrian areas have been fitted with new secure entry systems. This will prevent people who have not parked in the car park from entering the facility, thus reducing the risk of crime.”

This doesn’t hold up - it’s not at all secure, and one of the flaws is that you can always follow someone else in.
