I think the police teach a method where whenever the bike is in motion a brake must be available. When pushing a bike backwards do they recommend that the side stand is down so that you can brake the bike by leaning it onto the stand???
My brakes work going backwards so I tend not to use the sidestand as brakes:)
I’m confused. (Happens a lot these days.)
The prescribed (test) method of pushing a bike backwards is left hand on the left bar grip, right hand on the seat/carrier/grabrail.
Unless you hop on one leg to get the rear brake with the foot, what’s availble as a brake?
Yup. You let go of the seat/whatever and move your hand to the front brake lever.
So what’s the problem?
The answer is no,as you stand on the nearside and you hold nearside bar and rest the right hand on the seat as you push the bike. The only ones who have the sidestand down are the short ones:D and thats so they can get off easily
You could put it in gear and use the clutch lever as a ‘reverse’ brake. Better modern designs have a rear brake lever in that position though.
