PRAISE: Blays of Twickenham

Just wanted to post up about these guys.

Very quick to do the work on my bike, extremely helpful but possibly a little on the expensive side [ouch].

They were very sweet and dropped my bike off at home as was wasn’t able to pick it up after work.

Great service!

MMMMM,i wonder if that is the same Blays of Twickenham that my good friend and local ear on the ground B, told me had recently closed down ??

knowng them as i do, be sure to draw your curtains, double lock all doors and windows and for gods sake dont leave any dirty underwear lying about . . .

I actually heard that from another reliable source, I did check them out and it appears that they are legit (well been trading constantly as per Companies House).

They closed the showroom down but one of the guys bought out the workshop so that’s still going. I bought a bike of them a couple of years ago, wrote it off a year later and then when they found out I wasn’t going to immediately buy a new bike of them they turned into utter w@nkers!!! Never had any issues with the workshop though.

From what I heard Mark was closing the place so it could turn into another restaurant/flats whatever. The plot is worth a small fortune, but the old boy that lives above doesn’t want to move on so its all stalled. Could keep going remain a bike shop for the foreseeable future.

I was surprised to see the bikes outside the showroom yesterday, looks like theyre still trading. Ive already popped in to say goodbye a few months ago. Guess i`d better go and say good bye again!
Les, one of the mechanics, has set up a nice little workshop down the road now one of the two workshops is shut.

A sad way for Blays to celebrate it`s centenery year.

Bet they’re gutted after they flogged off all their stock dirt cheap! Can’t say I’m not chuckling after the way they treated me - “sorry john we’ve lost your keys” - “can you please have a look for them” - “why bother, the bikes written off?” - “yeah, but I still need the keys to sell whats left off it on!” - “sorry john but we can’t find them anywhere” (what they reallly meant) “maybe if you continued to be a customer by buying one of our over-priced bikes we’ll look a little harder”. TW@TS!!

Lusty, if you want to go to that pub round the corner from your place… you know Filthys, the one that is too rough for you I’ll introduce you to one of the guys, Kim he has been working there for years and years. Maybe he can give us some inside info.

Cool, how about tonight?

Just seen this and i gotta be honest here i’m surprised that anybody could even think about offering Blays and kind of praise whatsoever.

Whenever i have been in there and bought anything from them, and i used them quite alot a few years ago as i bought my very first scooter from them i have always found them overpriced and really unhelpful on the whole.Even their 'chief ’ mechanic Les seemed to be a bit dim to me and on a few occasions didn’t really seem to know what it was he was actually talking about.Which wasn’t really confidence inspiring at the time as he was working on my VFR 400 NC-30.

I also heard that they were closing down but haven’t actually seen any evidence of this as they have continued trading from the main shop and the stupidly priced bikes have always been outside still.

I picked up my bike this afternoon from Blays after a Service and MOT.

Friendly bunch and I am happy with their sevice.

Would definately use again.

Blays was owned by a family. Some of them wanted to cash I and they did. Others rented back the workshop part from the new owners and sell a handful of bikes and offer Jap servicing. Former boss Les opened a servicing garage behind Mercury Motors by the river on Strawberry Vale.

Blays are expensive. The service is as expensive as a main franchised dealer but offers a local service. The bikes were and still are laughingly expensive. I cannot see how anyone would buy at their asking prices. They are typically £2000 higher than private sales, £1000 higher than book and no used bike warranty to speak of.

Sure you get a used warranty but when questioned with a few simple (but way beyond your typical consumerist perhaps), their replies include “we don’t know if its been crashed…”, “if the engine blows, we’ll try and help you out…”. Like most warranties, theirs is worthless.

Probably no better or worse than any other dealer.

Personally I prefer franchised main dealers for key or tricky work as they know the pitfalls of each model. They’re not more expensive.

For easy work, Blays might offer a local convenience. I’d rather do it myself. Then I know its done.

Blimey that took some digging up:w00t:
