My question is, can you plan a route on a route planner and download it to a satnav?
What site can i plan and save? i have a garmin nuvi 2599.

They explain how to do everything. Check that your Nuvi has the ability to execute custom routes first before you spend time planning.
This video is the most popular method, it’s not necessarily the best option but Google maps is pretty user friendly for route planning.
