How holey are your leathers? :DI’m getting a 2 piece made to measure set of leathers via the Halo group buy … and have decided that I definitely don’t want full on “tea bag stylee” fully perforated leathers … since I’m going to be using them mainly in England, on the roads, and not flying around atrack in Jerez
So … do I go for “not perforated at all” (will still be “slightly breatheable” beause of the keprotec panels) … or … “slightly perforated” with one or two panels with holes in?
I’m leaning towards no perforation at all … but opinions more than welcome
+1 for semi perforated, when riding in the summer a quick wriggle and you can feel the sweat evaporate:cool: and still quite warm with long johns in the winter.
Think about what you want to wear underneath it too, something tailormade for the job will help you stay warm and shed heat if need be.
For me, I’d go with less perforations than more because that allows me to use the suit for more of the year. If it gets too hot then I’ll open the zip a bit which will provide all the ventilation that perforations might deliver.
Sure, on a track you don’t want to be hooning around with your suit agape, but if your zip is open a touch during normal riding it’s not a big deal. Opening your wrist zips is remarkably effect btw.
Truth is, when we simmer in July it’ll be too hot no matter what you’re wearing and around town you won’t be going fast enough for long enough for perforations to make a huge difference.
I’ve had a well ventilated suit and could only wear it as intended for a couple of months a year. Rest of the time I had to bulk it out which was just a faff.
I swear by my fully perforated Vanson jacket. It’s a summer only jacket but it makes such a difference - even after a commute into London on a sweltering July day I get off the bike with no sweat - even if you’re only trickling along at a couple of mph it really works.
For longer rides I carry a simple wind/waterproof lightweight jacket in the tailpack for if it rains (since the vanson handles the protection your normal cheap rain jacket does the trick).
