Pavels b12 front caliper

Pavel took his bike to have pads done, at same time they said his dust seal has fooked too and showed him, the thing is they did not take his brake piston out so i cant see how they showed him his dust seal.

My question is this: Can you take the dust seal out with out pumping the brake caliper piston out?
i say not, but may be wrong and i reckon they gave him another seal and not his.

Pavel! elaberate on wot they said. brake is working fine he says and is using bike.

See pic of said dust seal

Trying to find out cos pavel has asked for my help in fitting new dust seal, i am not 100% confident in doing this cos when i have done it the pistons have not come out evenly and 1 comes out leaving 1 still in lol, thus losing pressure.

I reckon they are both still in his caliper and the shop is talking bollox. or if any1 is about on sunday to assist? will prob have a go at me mums gaff, se16.

Yeah, its possible, the dust seal is just there to keep the worst of the crap away from the oil seal, the important bit. I think the dust seals just pop out, certainly possible without removing the piston, but the piston would have to be removed to inspect/remove the oil seal but i stand to be corrected.

Unfortunately i saw them removing dust seals from his pistons so i’m 99% sure that they are his.

Is there nobody on this site who can help to fix calipers, please?

can new 1s be popped back in without taking piston out?

so another shop for the shame section then? cant see how they can pop his dust seals out when he only asked to put new pads in, trying to make more of a job me thinks.

I usually change pads myself, but recently the bike was in for chain and sprockets and tyres, and i got them to do the front pads. The mechanic pumped the pistons out till they were nearly out of the caliper, got some brake cleaner and a wire brush and cleaned up the pistons before fitting the pads. Its possible that the shop did this and 1 of the dust seals came out, bringing it to the mechanics attention. Not trying to defend them, as i’ve been on the receiving end of shoddy service in shops before but i can see how it might have happened.

This is exactly what’s happened. They push caliper out to clean them and they took those bloody seals out.
