This one should be fine thanks, its a gpz 500 with a dual swingarm…
cheers very much, I think my chain is a little loose and thats why I’m getting the ratterling as I’m slowing so want to tighten it up a little and see if this fixes it.
how would you do it?the only time I have done it, I had the bike prop’d up and slid the wheel back (ok admittly I had just changed the tyre) so assumed this is how you (or at least one way of) tightened the chain
Slacken off the rear spindle and use the nuts on the end of the adjusters to pull the adjusters back in the swing arm. Voila, tighter chain.
From memory the gpz just uses locking nuts on the end of a threaded stud pulling against a plate across the end of the box section swinger. Or am I miles out. Haven’t worked on one for years…
I like to get the back wheel up to find the tight spot in the chain, drop the wheel to loosen the wheel bolt, then back up to adjust chain tension and align. Tighten then drop back on the ground to get the right torque for the wheel bolt. So the stand makes things a easier but is not completely necessary. I also tend to clean and oil the chain whilst I am about it and that is much easier on the stand.
I only ever use my side stand so I did not completely forget I had a centre stand, it just never even entered my mind to put the bike on it and sort the chain out…
