I have done a lot of online purchases for my bike and helmet. The two sites I have made transactions on have been racevisors and autotrader
A day after I purchased on racevisor, someone went to town with my card making all sorts of online purchases
I have received several letters and voicemails from my bank saying there has been loads of fraudulent activity on my account and 3 attempts to buy £400 phones at a time.
HSBC reckon it is one of those two websites mentioned above although I don’t see how it could be auto trader as hundreds of people use them. My card has been cancelled and account frozen whilst HSBC investigate
its the latest thing, when u buy anything with your card you put the card in then put your pin in and bingo, theres a cable atached to the reader so now they just down load your details then put them onto another card and off down to the cash point (with a wig and glasses on) then the next time you go to use your card it will be skint! this has all been hushed up by the banks but beleve me its costing them millions evry day, (petrol garages are the worst offenders)
I’M SURE THATS THE SAME SITE I USED LAST YEAR “IN THE CHANEL ILANDS I THINK” AFTER SOME ONE RUN UP ALMOST £3OOO.00 IN 3 DAYS IN fRANCE, THEY COPIED THE CARD. I GOT CREDITED BACK.
Same thing happened to me (and a few of others) last year after I used a new credit card to pay for something from a well known motorcycle accessories website. Within a couple of days somebody tried to buy a shed load of stuff from ebuyer.com on the same card I had payed with at ‘that’ firm (it was the only place I had ever used that card 'cos it was new, so no other firm had my card details), but luckily the credit card firm were on the ball, declined all the transaction attempts and contacted me on my mobile.
When I and lots of others discussed our ‘experience’ on another forum (attempted card fraud, the one and only common factor was that we had all used that same firm within the previous 5 days), this accessories firm decided to show its customer service skills by getting their solicitors to send a threatening email to the forum promising legal action unless the thread was deleted.
Would never ever use that firm again after their attitude.
Good tip is to use just ONE card soley for your internet purchases and for nothing else. Makes it easier to trace misuse and doesnt cause as much inconvenience if you have to cancel the card. NEVER a debit card as this obviously gives access to your bank account.
It could be that you have spyware on your PC that “watched” the transactions and then copied your bank details. There are loads of free spyware programmes that you can download. I run mine every couple of days and you won’t believe how many tracking cookies you pick up surfing around the web.
its a prepay magic 105.4 card where you can put money onto it for online purchases etc and then dont have to worry about other money in other accounts because the only money on it is the money you put on it, i might think about getting one soon
Its not the companys fault when stuff like this happens, like it was said earlier its all to do with how secure YOUR PC is. Generally, if you can see a small padlock on the bottom right of your screen you are entering a secure site.
I have just called them obviously a little concerned after what I have read and they maybe along shortly to put your mind at rest
There was a pattern that emerged of fraudulent credit card activity following people using a certain well known online bike accessories/spares shop as mentioned by TonUp ; be very careful about what is said about companies on an open forum, without proof other than circumstancial it is considered defamatory in the eyes of the law. As an admin of boxhill.co.uk I recieved a threatening letter from solicitors acting on behalf of a company that was mentioned there in relation to CC fraud(and also on LB as I recall).
Other than that, hope they catch the theiving wnakers
also on your comments, credit cards are covered for internet fraud where as most debit cards are not that is why if I’m buying online I will ALWAYS use a credit card
Yep, always use a credit-card where you can, even for real-world purchases for the insurance. Getting your debit card cloned at a petrol station will seriously mess up your month!
