On my way in this morning

So theres me on my way in to work this morning, minding my own business. I get past bloke on the SV :Whistling: (he he) and im on way up between the stationary traffic. Lovely, nice and wide so no need to squeeze or stop.

This was turning into a good commute until some dozy bloke runs out infront of me from between two vans :w00t: Scared the s**t out of him I did. Managed to stop and avoid a total catastrophe but by the time I got my feet on the ground the bike was on its way over. Yes I laid her down  Actually think I may have locked the front doing that emergency stop.

So no one hurt and no real damage other than a new little scratch on the bike from trying to lift her. Forget how heavy they can be. Bloke was really apologetic but he’ll do it again and if hadn’t had a cuppa and fag before I set off I may well have been tempted to lamp him.

Anyways just thought id post to say be careful out there. Silly season is officially in full swing and with the cold weather approaching its bound to get even sillier.

Ride safe.

Glad you and your scoot are ok mate. It could have been a whole lot worse.

It makes you wonder how some pedestrians are let out on their own sometimes;)

i uded to have this happen alot on scooters…less on teh SV6…now on th thou they have no excuse!! its fugging LOUD!

gald your ok fella and bikes not too bad…lucky huh! could have been worse;)

Lucky escape for you both. A while back I knocked down a pedestrian who did exactly the same, I managed to stay on though. She didn’t even look my way (no surprise there!) but I couldn’t really understand how she failed to hear the CBR which had a CarbonCanCo can on it - that is until one of the ambulance paramedics told me she was deaf! She was OK, but even though the police quickly decided there were no grounds for prosecution and there was no suggestion that I was at fault I still lost my no claims for a year while the file was open until my insurers decided she wasn’t likely to make a 3rd party injury claim against me.

If you’re deaf or visually impaired there’s no freeking way you should be jaywalking. Some people are nuts…

Glad you’re okay BobbyR1

you’re right about silly season. i had a young schoolkid run out through traffic yesterday. felt him brush against me or the bike as i passed him and he came to a sudden halt. if he hadn’t stopped i’d have been hit full on. Hopefully it shxt him up enough he won’t do it again. Had to shout at two cyclists in as many days for pulling out in front of me without them doing a shoulder check. twxts.

Since seeing Keti taken down by a pedestrian I always ride as if a pedestrian will run out from in front of any vehicle I am passing that I cannot see clearly over or round. I used to have a lot of near misses with pedestrians and cyclists when filtering, but now I tend to be just a little slower, not much, and usualy positioned much further out to get a better view and get more time so I don’t have to panic brake etc.

Had a good one myself earlier in the week.

Coming down a hill just after Bromley and there are some shops on the left, I’m doing just under thirty (speed camera just behind) and a silver merc suddenly pulls out across the road right in front of me, people behind blew their horns at the idiot and I had to veer quickly out of the way and around the central reservation into the path of oncoming traffic and then flick the bike back over onto the right side of the road. Heart in mouth job.

I look back and the merc is still across the road pointing towards the shops on the other side not knowing what to do, with a string of cars blocked by it. So scary that complete and utter idiots are driving about.

Absolutely - after my accident I have absolutely zero faith in cage drivers - and the prospect of having to share the roads with them again is making me nervous (I’m not joking - I’ve already had a few bad dreams/nightmares involving out of control cars spinning towards me - I usually wake up in a cold sweat).

V is the same, she’s even having problems being driven around in the car at the moment.

The feeling will pass after a while.

I’ve been hit by cars 3 times when out cycling, absolutely bizaare moves by cagers everytime, one was when I was on a roundabout and they just drove straight into me. Still cycling, still driving and still motorbiking though. Don’t let them get to you.

The fear does pass, though it does take time, I have also been hit a few times by cars on a pedal cycle. You could you use the phrase, a bit like riding a bike, when you fall off, you have to get back on and get on with it.When the pair of you are well enough, that is exactly what you have to do, and positive thinking. Think of the law of averages, it’s happened once, what is the percentage for it to happen again - low.
