On Board Camera Rental? Is there a market?

Evening all…

A mate of mine is in the process of setting up a business that is aimed at providing portable camera rental for people doing various outdoor sports and activities…

I mentioned the fact that I’d seen a guy recently at Rockingham who was hooking a few cameras up to guys who were doing the track day… and that I’d be interested in something like that and also the fact that its not limited to a track day…

Im not sure how much it cost at the track day, but I thought I would use the good people of LB to do some market research (I hope the mod’s are ok with this?). What do people think of the idea camera rental? Also how much would be reasonable for rental of a camera… For example if you were to rent a camera for Friday, Sat and Sunday (including all the kit needed to mount the camera) and then for it to be returned on the Monday what would be a reasonable price? In terms of the kit - from what I know, its good quality kit and is fully waterproof and that…

Anyone got any comments and more importantly what they think would be a reasonable price?

Thanks very much!

with camera now under £100 for the simplest and no more than £300 or £400 for the more sophisticated, unless you have connection with a track day organizer and are willing to go to all of the track days I think that the market is really small
I can only see this working as part of a business that primarily sale them in the first place

I believe you (your friends) cannot charge more than £30 for the weekend!!

There’s a company called fast bikes that already do this with No Limits trackdays. A mate of mine has used it before at Siverstone but I can’t remember how much it cost.
I’ll try and find out for you.

Procam do it for the focused events trackdays, havent used them but the charge something like £20 a session, 35 for two, etc and they give you a DVD at the end of it. can’t see there being much profit in it…

this is potentially a job for someone and you might (might make a living at it) but not a business.

To be honest I would rather pay £150 - £200 for a decent camera and then be able to use it whenever I want for ANY occasion
