Oh GINGER one! FBOS

Ere fella.

Did you ever get those certificates from the FBOS people?

Also, for anyone who tookt he course with us last year…I was thinking about it last night and trying to remember what ABC has been replaced with. Can anyone remember what the new memeory method of remebering how to check for life is…? THey did tell us.

I know there’s all the 1 person takes charge. Alertness, Breathing checking stuff, all good, one person holds head, the second removes helmet (minding my huge conk as it goes), and 2 breaths for 30 pumps CPR stuff, and all that stuff, but I just can’t remember what the memory trick was that you’re supposed to follow.

It used to be Airway, Breathing, Circulation (ABC) but its changed…Anyone…?

Cor…your so clever you are…my hero !!

How do you remember all that stuff in an actual emergency though?? i would go to pieces if someone had stopped breathing…its good to know that when we go on rideouts, that there are some there that DO know what to do if an accident occurs that needs this kind of resuss …i did mean to go on a course like this, but im so thick i dont think i would remember what to do…

Why thank you.

I put it down to the manly facial hair I wear… sort of a beardy Samson me… the mor hair I wear, the more the girls go gaga… It’s a tough life, and its a big responsiblity but someone’s just got to be the maiden magnet!

Dont let Westie see this then !! He practically swoons as it is !!! Must say, your “beardy” thing does tickle somewhat…:stuck_out_tongue:

The way the ambulance service teach it it DR ABC.
Danger - Check for Danger(to you and the patient)
Response - Check for a Response from the patient
Then
Airway
Breathing
Circulation

Or as I was taught - DRs ABC!!

Funny how things change when I did my First Aid we where told

Breathing
Bleeding
Breaks
Burns

as a list of priority after assessing the scene for potential hazards.

Exactly as we’re taught.

DR ABC.

Then after that give a primary survey - check the whole of the injured party for wounds - some may not be obvious. Treat what you find as you’ve been taught. Then a secondry survey, to make sure that no bleeds etc have been missed.

Nice guys, much obliged…

I remember it as DRAB at our day but I could be wrong

I think that’s cos he cut Circulation off.

If you check breathing and he/she is, you can assume circulation is there.

If he/she isn’t breathing, then you can assume circulation is a problem and you’ve got to clear the airway and start CPR… so you don’t even get to C in the list.

Nice Graham, all the pieces fit together in my head again now, ta.

You shouldn’t need to clear the airway after checking the breathing. If the airway is compromised then you need to sort that with a head tilt or the like before you go on to check the breathing and circulation. In the whole DR ABC routine, you remedy things in that order before moving onto the next step, so if there’s a problem with A then you fix it then check for B and so on. ;)Strangely you’ll find that if you ever need to use it for any reason then everything tends to come back to you and it’s not as difficult as it seems.

OMG!!! No circulation. What sort of an ambulanceman was he?

Seriously though, thanks for raising the Q, Toby, and thanks for the answers. We were having the “Damn! I’ve forgotten what order it all came in. Can you remember?” conversation at home last week.

That would make sense… that’s what the A is for… doh!

If the victim is a fit lass, I’d have thought copping a feel would be near the top of my priorities.
