I think I mentioned I had a job interview a while back with a French aid agency. Anyway I just heard today I got the post. I’ll be managing disability projects in Afghanistan, in Kabul, Herat and Kandahar. The organisation have worked in Afghanistan for many years and they have a good reputation there. Afghanistan has the highest rate of disability in the world, mainly as a result of cluster munitions / landmines, and disabled people have been the most affected by the recent wars. Many rural women also don’t have access to health care during pregnancy and more children are born with disabilities. The organisation work with the Afghan health system, providing training and technical assistance in the fitting of artificial limbs / physiotherapy for people with disabilities / landmine awareness raising and also supporting disabled people to get back into their communities etcThe contract is for one year, from Sept - but because of the security situation you are allowed out of the country for two weeks every three to four months, so I may come home in that time. I have had long discussions about the security situation and am aware it will be a very challenging situation to be in.
I will also be putting the Honda Hornet on the market - although am still debating this - as it’s the best bike I’ve ever had. If I come home during the time I am there and have sold the Honda, I may be begging folks for a blast on their bikes LOL

Ha ha, I’m not getting £300 a day, cor blimey, maybe we can swap jobs Shando? I work for the charity sector No I wouldn’t really swap, my job is so fantastic, i can’t believe I’ve been so lucky to get it.
No not £300 a day, I’m a squaddie. There are loads of private security firms operating in Afghanistan and Iraq who generally employ ex squaddies and the pay is good.
Hels - sounds like worthy work. Afghanistan is a wonderful place in better times so I hope you can make the best of it. The best of luck in the job. Try and blog your experiences, and let us know about them. A friend was on a diplomatic assignment in Bierute during the Israeli invasion the other year and her regular postings were both fascinating from a historical/personal perspective, and a relief from a personal one.
Cheers folks, will try and do a blog, but being such a techno phobe (only learnt how to do fthe orums recently) and not being on any sites like facebook etc, i am not sure how you go about sorting a ‘blog’ out? I usually do ‘everyone e mails’!! Advice welcome!!

If you use Blogspot it is all pretty simple - you just choose a template and drop in text and pictures. You can do more fancy stuff if you wish but it is about as easy as posting to this forum.

I will really miss biking, have had a fab year on the Hornet, it’s been an awesome bike, really top notch. No motorbiking round Kabul I think, but I will try and log onto the forum from time to time to catch up on the biking news, I’ve found it a very nice and friendly forum to be on.
