North London Training

So as a mid 30’s guy with no motorbike experiance I’m looking for a good school to get my CBT in March and then DAS probably in June

I’m based in Hendon so wondering who to go with. North London Motorcycle in Edgware are currently my 1st choice

NLMT seem very good and easy to get too which is a bonus. Just concerned about the past Rex judd connection

Camrider seem very hit and miss with instructors plus I keep reading of them trying to up sell extra days of training

Getbike a bit a chore to get too but do seem to get great feedback

Metropolis again mixed reviews.

Metropolis - avoid.

Go to these guys- Terry or Lewis - http://mctlondon.co.uk

Numerous people on this forum have trained with them, i did my das with them and passed mod 1 and 2 first time, and i had only been riding my 125 for a year, prior to that no bike or road experience whatsoever and alot of nerves.

Really cool guys, thorough training.

+1. Osterley a bit further to go for you, but it will be worth your while, MCT London are different from all the other schools, they care and have very high standards. You will get solid training and won’t be disappointed.

I did it with Camrider (Hendon), last yearm from zero experience to DAS. I can´t complain to be honest… If anything one of the instructors was making stupid jokes over the radio… but that was probably because I was a bag of nerves and he was trying to ease up things. They have competitive rates too. Training bikes are also in good shape, except for the the 125 suzuki bam bam pieces of ****.

I did mine with a company based in Wembley, called Premier Rider Training. They were pretty ok at the time

Done my CBT and DAS with GetBike. Seemed like stand-up guys. MCT London, though, is not that much farther, and has received a lot of praise on this forum.

I used NLMT and really enjoyed it and passed first time. When I went you could have a free 30min assessment and they tell you how many days it will probably take to get you through.

I, my dad, brothers and several of my friends have used North London (dating to back when it had a Rex Judd link), none of us have had any complaints.

That sounds good. Were they flexible in doing the training and tests around your schedule? Can there Mod 1 and 2 test be taken at weekends? Many courses I’ve seen elsewhere were on Mondays which is a sod due to work.

Where do they do the off-road training?

certainly sound good but a 3 hour round trip each day after extensive training may not be a good thing. Deffo keep them in mind though

As far as I know they are very flexible, but please check so it works for you.

The tests I did were at Uxbridge so you could research their timings perhaps?

The off road training was a short ride up the road (North)… You get plenty of training in off road and on road (good mix of town and country roads) plus visits to the test centre as well.

Good luck which ever way you choose…

Have only done my CBT but I would recommend Alpha for that, as I had a bad experience on my first attempt with somewhere well recommended that it almost put me off trying again.

Ended up picking Alpha after searching Google as they were not too expensive, had some good reviews, and were easy for me to get to as they were just behind the Westfield in Shepherd’s Bush. But they have since moved further north as that area is going to be redeveloped, I think to Stonebridge.

But despite making me go out on the roads, in pouring rain, they did not get me killed. So that counts for a lot with me.

When Metalred decided to take up motorcycling I took her to Camrider Hendon.
I don’t encourage folks to take up motorcycling.
I’ve been doing it too long and too many of my biker (sorry ChopRocker… motorcyclist) friends are dead.
So when a loved one takes it up I want to make sure the training is as good as it gets.
Camrider fitted the bill, literally… there were several old bill there.

I think you meant Suzuki VanVan?
An excellent first bike, weighs in at just 117 Kg, and a good all round ride.
We bought a nice 2nd hand one, for MetalRed, I took it for a few spins.
What’s wrong with the VanVans at Camrider?
MetalRed trained on new ones in 2009, if they haven’t been replaced by now
then I guess that could be the problem?

As far as I’m concerned… miles under the belt is crucial to build up experience.

MetalRed, passed at Camrider then spent a year on her VanVan before moving
onto a Ninja 250R, which she used for commuting for 2 years and over 20,000 miles.
She then got a SV650, another 20,000 miles and still being used for commuting and
she now has a ZX6R too.
