NINJA Buying advice please...

Hi Guys,

I wonder if I can ask for your expert advice on a bike I am looking at.

It a 2006 KAWASAKI NINJA ZX 636 C6F in black with 12,265 miles on the clock.
First registered 01/06/06 so it is 8 years & 3 months old and on its 2nd owner.
Current owner bought it Oct 2013, it was serviced and had 4,414 miles at the time.
Over 11 months the bike has done 7,851 miles - it has had new tyres (continental pilots) and chain & sprockets replaced (chain had a kink).
Tax expires Sept and MOT 06Oct and it is time for a service - from my inspection all the brake pads are low so will need to be done.
It has a good (full) service history upto (Oct 13) and was up north in Newscastle before coming down to London.
Good cosmetic condition, comes with 3 keys, 2 alarm fobs (Datatool) and has the odd scratch here and there.
The only thing that sprung out was the clutch lever had little play on the pull AND up/down play on the lever itself.
Panels were clean but some dirty/oily specs on pedals and here and there and dusty callipers - always garaged and used for commuting - selling as ‘not allowed’ a bike anymore due to family.
It starts & sounds oks, all controls & electrics work.

Can you guys give me an estimate of what its worth - taking into account it needs a service & pads and tax £80 - I told them any offer is subject to it being MOT’d.

Also, anything else specific to this model that needs to be checked or known issues or reasons to avoid?
Also, what can cause a chain to ‘kink’ and consequences of riding in that condition?

Thanks,

Mark.

The chain may have been over tightened causing links stretch & kink, consequences are un-smooth ride, power loss & possible snapping…

Kawasaki build quality is sh!t. Got myself a ZX10R 2009 22K on the clock full service history. My saving grace is that I haggled in 1 year parts and labour warranty… Boy have I used it.

It is a brilliant bike though but I don’t think I’d buy another Kawasaki.

love ninja’s, ive had 3 in total.
i have this years 636 and i love it.
my old zx6r is amazing too
and before those i had a ninja 250. never had a problem.
beautiful bikes with loads of power.
its a shame daniel had a bad experience but for the most part they are good bikes, like everything, the occasional error happens but thats life.

when ever someone asks what a bike is worth, my first place to look is auto trader, put in the info for the bike and find one the same year with similar millage and that should give you a good idea of what they are worth in your area.
in terms of other work to be done soon on the bike…be grateful you know its due rather than buying the bike and thinking everything is fine then getting stung by repairs / replacement parts ect.

just my opinions based on my experience with kawa’s.
good luck.

Shaunicous its a brilliant bike and it works its just got a lot of wear and tear issues (especially the mirror mechinism at £100 a pop). I was thrashing the crap out of it and shot my rear wheel barings to pieces. I’ve never done that on another bike. Everything is/was correctly adjusted. Also, ECU is playing up. This model has two. Its going in to have 2 new ECU components fitted costing approx £1000 give or take a couple hundred notes. Thank god for warranty lol.
