Newbie Requesting some advice

Hello All!

I just recently pass my test and just purchased my first bike SV650S, 2004!

However, the dealer i got it from try to fix the speedo and now it’s reading twice the speed. I didn’t take the bike in the end. But that wasn’t the thing that bothered me.

The milage on the clock had previously recordered, roughly, 21,000. When i saw it on the pick up day, it was reading 23,000.

My mate knows one of the guys that works there, and said the bike had not been anywhere.

I’m very sure the milage said 21,000.

Anyone have any other ideas for this?

Was the bike MOTd for you from pick up or are there any previous MOTs in your service history, if so check the mileage on those to now.

www.sv650.org is a good site for info regarding your bike and problems. I had a sv that had speedo issues, ended up having to get a new dash for it.

Check that your cogs has not been changed that would have your speedo etc read wrong.

That all sounds a bit strange doesn’t it?

The shop you bought this from has a duty to sort your speedo out as it was not sold “Fit for purpose”

I wonder if they have used bits of a kph bike instead of mph? Its an electronic speedo and they are known to be a bit iffy on Suzooks.

Remember, if the speedo is reading 100% over, then so will your mileometer:w00t:

It was a Honda garage so they did use the wrong bit. But they are fixing it - free of charge of cause!

As for the mystersy, it is the same bike, as i check the straches that was there previously on the righthand side on the bike, on the stickers.

I gonna check the chassy number of the bike against the MOT, but the millage has been declared the same on the MOT as well as the log book they stamped. So they are liable if it looks funny.

I have warrenty for 3 months, so i’m not that worried. Just wanted to know why this might have happened.

Bike looks great - however i’m looking for a scorpion exhaust. Heard they sound absolutly amazing.

lol. There is an up side to this, it reads crazy speed when i’m only doing 70mph.

However, i refused to pick it up!
