I’m hoping someone out there will be able to steer me in the right direction.I’ve been researching new TV’s for ages and have got down to a shortlist of three. Two are LCD and one is LED, which one should I go for? I’ve had to discard hundreds as they’re too wide to fit in the piece of funiture they’re destined for!!
The models are: Phillips 32PFL7404h/12 and Panasonic TX-L32G10 both LCD and a Sharp Aquos LC-32LU700S which is LED.
All of them are 100hz which I believe makes for better pictures when watching sport or fast moving images and are full HD. The LED is about £100 more expensive than the LCD’s.
The telly will be about 2.5-3m away from the sofa (the main viewing platform!) and I also have a Wii console.
Opinions on which TV would be best for me are most welcome. Someone who works in the trade even more welcome!!!
totally depends on what LCD tv you get (LED is just how its is backlit) some LED tv’s are worse than old style LCD’s
I would try your best to go and see them live so you can decide. As well they are couple review magazines such as http://www.whathifi.com/ that will help you out.
LED is the way to go. Have a look at the Samsung Series 6 LED TV Range. This is the range I worked on. There do a 32 but 40+ seems better. Greater depth of colour and contrast rate. Got to be 1080p and 100 refresh
The only bad point we have had back on LCD and LED is the colour contrast is to good and the image does not look real. It all depends on your eyes a lot of the time. Most of the people who think the colour is to strong go for Plasma.
Series 6 also has multi feeds and 4 HDMI connections as well
Lcd’s use a horrendous amount of power compared to led due to having to rely on a mercury filled light source behind the screen, whereas led as per the name, is it’s own light source.
Led tvs are defo the way to go, thinner, lighter, smaller frame.
and me. I was having a wee peek at the Samsungs. Nice looking and are mega thin at about 29mm or something. Next to an LCD the picture and colour is incredible. I only want a 32" as not much space but it’s still about £600. I’ve never actually bought a telly before so seem to be completely behind the times in what’s good or not.
Our TV decided it didn’t want to work any more…2 weeks before Christmas…after it was knocked off the unit…so the house insurance was called. They wanted me to pay 100quid excess to have it repaired…its 8 yrs old so not likely to last for much longer so there was no way I was spending that much on it.
I fell in love with the new Samsung but it was out of my price range…so Dave checked a view review sites and this one came back with the best write ups (great for gaming machines as well):
LG 32" 32LH3000 Full HD 1080p
We bought one from Currys in the sale…reduced from 399quid to 329quid! Its excellent, great picture, sound and no lag when playing the XBox through it! :w00t:
Thanks for all your help. I’ve just bought a Sharp Aquos LC-32LU700 LED TV from Richer Sounds near Liverpool Street Station. It cost £600 but was only £30 more than the LCD Phillips version I was also looking at, the picture did look better than the Phillips too. Lets hope I made the right decision.
Not sure if it will ever be delivered though, looking at the weather report for the rest of the week!
It’s been mentioned in this thread already but I think it’s still an overlooked thing.
The current LED TVs are not the new generation of TVs. It’s not Plasma, LCD and then the current LEDs.
The new generation OLEDs are not around yet.
The current LED TVs are simply LCDs that use LEDs for the back lighting. They may be more power efficient etc but it’s not a revolutionary change that you should be paying a big premium for.
