New product for LB track-dayers

http://www.banksracing.co.uk/products.htm

I realise they are not a new idea, but they are lighter and prettier than NRC covers (That matters to some apparently), and they bolt on rather than stick on unlike the kevlar cases.

Being used on the superduke cup bikes this year.

My set are in the post.

LOL, afro might be along to tell you shortly

do you know if they do the 06 r1 - just looks to be 07s?

for all your engine cover needs give seton tuning a tinkle

I was looking at the clutch covers a while ago. I’m not convinced right now, but I do like my bolt-on’s, so might end up with one  I already have proper Woodcraft replacement covers on the alternator cover and other RHS covers.

Woodcraft! Very nice! Not cheap that stuff! I thought they had replaceable scrap plates on them?

Nothing for Honda?

Quite like the look of their crash bungs. Look pretty tough.

sorry if this is a silly question but what happens to bolts when you crash?

when i wrote off that r1, some of the bolt heads were screwed, so you couldn’t undo them (not that i got a chance to try)

do the glue on ones cover the bolt heads or are they left exposed?

all depends how you fit them and its specific to each bike as some casing bolts will poke out more than others.

you can fit the carbon/kevlar covers so that they are simply covering the main body of the casing and don’t cover the bolts or you can fit them over the whole casing including the bolts. this is a pain though as if/when you need to get inside the casing for whatever reason you have to destroy most of the cover to get in.

The metal woodcraft covers with sliders are also effective but cost a lot more than carbon/kevlar ones which are just as good thus aren’t great for those actually pushing to the point of crashing regularly…unles they are minted

You can get a full set of carbon covers for both sides of the engine for most modern sports bikes for around the 200-250 mark. Well worth the money.

I tried the NRC carbon covers supplied by Motrax I think. Used them for a while on my R6.Unfortunately, when I came off at a Mallory Park trackday using them, they got worn through and the clutch case still got a fairly deep groove cut into. Fair enough, it didn’t crack, but still, I guess I was expecting more.

Would prefer to run metal casings in future, but like scratcher says, they’re alot dearer.

Guess the best idea is to never fall off on track like Ben…What a legend

it did its job then. preventing oil from escaping and protect the core engine internals. not there to prevent external damage to the bike as if you’re crashing its gonna get munched no matter what you have on it. even crash bungs can cause more damage than good in certain crashes.

wouldn’t it be awesome to have a bike that didn’t get damaged at all in any crash…come on r&g…pull your finger out :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah agree with that…

I’ve heard that crash mushrooms have been responsible for splitting or bending frames in crashes where if they hadn’t been fitted, this wouldn’t have happened.

How pissed would you be if you had to buy a new frame because a frame protector didn’t do what it said it would do on the packaging :pinch:

you guys have got to see what my research has done for the 10’s bungs, you know the bit where i fell off on the salt, all for research you know…anyway they ahve developed carash bungs, sliders for the cases to protect the screws and cases and panels and are coming up with a new slider for the sticky out bits of the bodywork to see if that can be protected better…

they are also looking to design a protector for the exhaust as well…

they are a good bunch that lot…

and my research has helped them no end…

i guess you only have to look at the BSB/WSB/Motogp bikes and see how many have bungs on their bikes…

I’ve just fitted a carbon/kevlar clutch cover to my VTR from Germany. It only covers the central clutch drum which leaves all the bolts exposed. It’s bonded in place with clear silicone and will never come off in one piece:w00t:Looks well shexy:cool:

Not sure about their carbon covers but their metal casings will take many hits. I had an off and they got pretty scored up so I wrote to NRC with pictures to see if they needed replacing or were they good for more tarmac surfing. This was their reply: “From what I can see, this type of abrasion is quite minor and should pose no problem. In the past, I have had racers brag about going down as many as 10 times and still use them. In fact, one racer stated that his bike was destroyed from a bad tumble but he salvaged our covers and installed them on another bike.”

Woodcraft metal covers are the danglies IMO - had them on a previous bike

In light of the thread being about equipment for LB trackdayers, perhaps a better piece of kit would be this suit (given the amount of crashing that happened at Brands  )

When my mate who i was doing mechanics for was running SS600’s he never used the NRG covers as we were quite suprised how much the OEM covers were. Ring the stealer you may well be suprised!

great where can I get one…

secondary engine covers are now compulsory in some classes and i’m sure they will be mandatory in all classes soon enough.

These ones are standard on all the Triumph Triple Challenge 675’s as they were instumental in the case development:)
