New biker Se london

Hi guys,

I recently sold my car and i am looking to get a motorcycle, is there any recommended bike you guys would have in mind, maybe something I can have fun with by myself and also give my gf a ride once in awhile, I like the look of cafe bikes, but i believe these are single riders .

Thanks

Need a bit more info before recomending Bikes

How long you been riding (Dictates engine size), Whats your Budget etc etc

depends on your experience I guess… But why not arrange test rides at various places, and go for the bike you like the most?

Before I started riding I thought i’d like one style of bike, but once I started I realised I wanted something completely different.

is it to early to say your GF will probably be disappointed if you’re only giving her a ride once in a while?

I just passed my CBT, So maybe a 125cc
Budget £2000- 4000

I been looking at SUZUKI BURGMAN 125 , SINNIS CRUISESTAR , SKYTEAM ACE…

You can’t, and you wouldn’t want to, carry a passenger on a CBT + 125cc bike.

If that’s what you’re after then best bet would be to do the full test and pick up used 600 like a Bandit/Hornet/SV650.

Go for something cheap, so won’t need to worry if you drop it etc. Plus you’ll get rid of it after a year or two anyway, because you’ll just want more power (that’s assuming you will be riding with CBT only).

Haha, well she isn’t a big fan of the cold, winter is coming , but will probably surprise her at work and pick her up.
So i will have to get her a heated jacket , gloves …

Welcome Ali! As neddy says, you are prohibited from carrying a passenger before you have passed your test. Small bikes aren’t great for passengers anyhow. You wouldn’t be able to go very far two up, it’d take forever! It might be better to spend some of that budget on getting your full license and then buy a second hand 600 with the remaining amount.

Thanks guys, I am planing to get my full license , I guess she would have to wait for now…so 600 and over is recommended power for passengers ?

I’d say 800cc+ minimum for two up at motorway speeds, but would suggest 1000cc. You’re after the torque of the engine as opposed to the max HP, the former is mostly a function of displacement.

Thanks guys , you were all helpful, i’ll start looking again with my new found knowledge.

Are you old enough to get the full licence? If so, i’d get a cheap 125cc, and work on the full licence, then get a 600…

Yea i’m old enough,

Welcome first of all.

I think a 600 is a bit lacking in power for 2 up frequently. 1000cc is likely to be a killer on insurance. Maybe something like a bmw f800 might be worth considering.

Meanwhile to gain some experience would you consider a Yamaha r125? If so pm me.

Get out of here, 600cc is fine for two-up. You guys need to open the throttle more

ha - what do I know, i’m still on a 125cc

I agree with Jay, a 600 is fine for two up.

To answer your cafe racer question, not all are single seat, most just have them that way or like my Triumph so have a removable plastic cover to allow pillions to sit.

I’m considering these 3 , Here are the links

Let me know what you think .

depending on where you live mate, if you go for the Yam you will want to sleep with it. Something like that is going to be well sought after by thieves. you’ll need to lock that thing down
