Got the nastiest spam I have ever seen today -

Bad Day,
I want you to read this message very carefully, and keep the secret with
you till further notice, You have no need of knowing who I am, where am
from, till I make out a space for us to meet and discuss the whole
situation if you agree to my terms, I have signed a contract of $50,000
yesterday for this in advance to terminate you with some reasons listed
to me by my employers, it’s one I believe you call a close friend, I
have never met you before, but they gave me the full description of your
identity and contact, together with your photograph which my boys have
used to trace you.

My BOYS are now constantly watching you, they are following you anywhere
you go and they are waiting for the instruction to terminate you.

I have followed you closely for one week and three days now and have
seen that you are innocent of the accusation, Now do not contact the
police or try to send a copy of this to them, because if you do i will
know as i have contact every where with the police and other security
agent, and might be pushed to do what i have being paid to do, beside,
this is the first time I turned out to be a betrayer in my job.
Now, listen, I will arrange for us to see face to face but before that i
need the amount of US$60,000.00 and you will have nothing to be afraid
of. I will be coming to see you in your office or home determine where
you wish we meet, do not set any camera to cover us or set up any tape
to record our conversation, my employer is in my control now, You will
need to pay US$10,000.00 to the account I will provide for you before we
will set our first meeting, after you have make the first advance
payment to the account, i will give you the full information of my
employer and video and audio tape conversation with him that contains
his request for me to terminate you, which will be enough evidence for
you to take him to court (if you wish to), then the balance will be paid
later. You don’t need my phone contact for now till am assured you are
ready to comply positively.

LISTEN VERY WELL !!!,the Police cannot do much to help you out in this
right now because you are being watched, any such attempt is very risky
cause you will push us to terminate your life without option your calls
are not safe also. In fact you are traced.

Once more I shall remain anonymous, however, you have no alternatives
other than to co-operate positively and do as I said or face the brewing
storm. You must also trust that as long as you keep your part of the
deal, I shall too keep mine and live up to my words. This time I am
holding the trump card and shall put it to effective use if you fail to
co-operate positively as requested. Any move by you other than co-
operation will have catastrophic consequences to you.
I wait for your response urgently to settle this and counter my employer
directives against you immediately. Thanks you for your attention.

Please, please dont tell me for a moment or even a nanosecond that you might have believed that The sad fact is that there are some out ther who just might or even still be waiting for that kind Nigerian ex government minister to credit their bank with the many millions of $ that you can help him remove from the countries surplus

I know it’s spam, but whoever sent that out needs seeing to.

I’d also send it to the newspapers so the gullible masses also know these are about.

Can you get at the mail header and get the details of where it came from? you should be able to trace it back to the internet provider and from there they can find out who sent it (I seriously doubt whoever created that has the nous to hide their tracks very well).

Report it and send it to the press. It’s nasty and could cause extreme stress to somebody more vulnerable.

The Met’s computer crime people have this advice -

Offensive e-mailsIf you are concerned about “spam” or general unwanted e-mail, do not automatically assume that it is coming from where it seems to come from. There are various ways in which “spammers” can give false addresses.

Police can generally only assist in criminal matters and there is little that they can do in relation to general “spam”, such as commercial advertising and campaign mailing, especially if it turns out that it originates from another country. Your internet service provider may be able to provide advice on identifying the origin of e-mail and on selectively blocking messages.

If someone is exploiting personal information about you in order to send you unwanted e-mail they may be breaching data protection laws. In the UK the authority responsible for overseeing data protection laws is the Information Commissioner. You can find information and advice at the Information Commissioner’s website at: http://www.dataprotection.gov.uk

If you feel you are in danger as a result of threatening or offensive e-mails, please contact your local police station.

After spending an hour and half handing in some valuables I found at the local plod shop I have no intention of wasting my time there over this. I have found a posisible source for the mail from the headers and will pursue that but I ma not convinced the alleged anonomous email service is really responsible.

The anonymous e-mail service may not be responsible, but they will certainly be liable if, once they have been notified of this kind of material using their services, they don’t do anything about it.

Definitely send it to the press, phone your local plod and get an e-mail address for where to forward it to (I know you don’t want to bother going in and wasting your time there) and let them get on with it.

Mainstream consumer-advice telly programmes (mattcb600, here’s where you come up with the names) may well be interested, as this is another take on the Nigerian Govt Minister with a really nasty twist. I reckon they’d be very interested in doing a piece on it.

I would certainly be happy to forward on the message with headers to anyone in the media if anyone has a contact who would be interested. As for my local police - today they are out in force delivering leaflets with mug shots of a local scrote who has assaulted toddlers and abused disabled people in the area. I think they are more use doing that than pursuing some overseas fraudster, no matter how nasty. BTW, the email service claim to have taken the necessary action to stop a repeat of that person’s actions.

We happen to live in one of the lowest crime wards in London - too poor to be worth robbing, but up-market enough to not have drugged up neighbours! Our home is one digit different from the home of this scrote - fortunatly we are on the odd side, he is even and the road winds about a lot so we have never met. There is an ASBO, and it looks like the plod are angling for evidence of breaches so they can get him locket up.
