my operation from hell

well got there at 12:30 had to wait get asked stupid questions and get in the gowns (very sexy) i saw the Anesthetist who changed her mind and said oh no were going to do a nerve block on you instead of a general which worried me as i didn’t want to be awake for this.

just when i thought it was crap the surgeon tells me because its been 2 weeks i might need cutting open. so off i go for this nerve block this jab me in my right hand put in an I.V then start scanning my left arm for the nerve which is my the arm pit. she jabs in some needle turns out its an electric probe and they start electrocuting my nerves and damn this hurt like hell because they were moving it around and catching others

cut a long story short she couldn’t find the nerves kept coming out and restabbing me which i felt all off it the student nurse was meant to be putting in increments of 1 each time but done 5 so my arm was filling up all in the wrong places, what should of been a 10min job she said took over an hour!!!

i felt it all even when the pins were going in my arm is completely numb dunno when itll come back and im now off of work for 6 weeks now 3 so im screwed for money as i only get £79 a week on ssp

Feel your pain Shiver… and also the worst pain being put on ssp, my daughters just had to move back home because work said they’d pay her full pay, now have gone back on their word and aren’t…she’s fooked like you.

Hope you heal soon matey.

Sorry to hear this Shiver - I know what it’s like to be in this situ - hope hand and everything gets better soon mate.

Get better soon mate.

Sounds crappy fella, keep chugging on and look forward to the removal of cast/pins.

I know what it is like being incapacitated through rugby injuries…mind numbing crap on TV.

Thoughts are with you matey !

Hi mate,

I think I know what your going through, I broke my arm on a pushbike when I was 16 and following the operation to put in the metal/screws they caused me some nerve damage (dont go chase farm hospital).

I had to have all sorts of tests done to check if I would get movement back in my hand (i could grip but not extend all my fingers) and I had to have something similar when they poked needles in my arm connected to a machine (student had to have a go doing this also :frowning: ) whilst shocking me with a current to see if they could pick up the current

Really horrible process and was close to passing out but they were confident it would heal and thank god after a year or so I got 100% movement back.

The docs reccomended vitamins b6 & b12 as apparently that stimulates nerve growth.

Good luck and I hope everything goes ok bud.

oh ive got my nerves working again but the way she went about is a joke you can play connect 4 on the amount of holes she put in my arm pit let alone the 3 holes in my hand to get the i.v in.

cant wait for this to all be over and get back on my bike

That’s crap. Recent experience with NHS also not so good. Possible problem is that medical staff HAVE to believe that they are infallible otherwise they would never do any procedures for fear of cocking up. Unfortunately, when things don’t go as planned they sometimes just carry on ‘stabbing away’ to save their pride. Hope you’re feeling better soon.

It just made me think how great the NHS is training its staff efficiently and being patient centred :w00t:

Glad to hear the good news about the nerves too.

Cheers.
