My first ask about Bike Parking

So don’t think I’ve had to ask this one before.

Anyone know any side roads off of chiswick high road (M4 end) I can park, and do I have to pay?

I’ve seen a few pays on google street view but cannot see if I have to pay or not.

That’s Hounslow right? You can park for free in residents & shared bays (and motorbike bays obviously), but not pay and display

Speak to Slan, she used to live round there so will probably know (but then again, she probably got lost finding the bays!!!)

Most of Chiswick is in Hounslow

Other parts of the W4 postcode area, including Chiswick Park tube station, Acton Green, and much of Bedford Park are in the London Borough of Ealing.

tried mate was useless

isnt chiswick honda nearby?

if thats the right end, then i assume you should be able to park all around in that industrial complex.  or even ask politely to chiswick honda if they’ll let you park in their parking lot…

I park outside the Police station if working down there.

There are a couple of spaces outside the Police station but they are often full during business hours.

Chiswick is a PITA because it is in 3 boroughs.
The safest place to park is on South Parade, as it is in Ealing Borough and runs parallel with Chiswick High St.
It is a permit parking street but because it is Ealing you can park a bike there- it is literally 2 mins to the High Road.
If you do the same thing on Chiswick High Road you’ll get a ticket (because it is Hounslow or H.smith & Fullham)
I’ve parked in the Sainsbury car park for several hours as well, including an overnight- I didn’t get a ticket and just rode around the boom, but not sure if this is 100% fine or not.

Isn’t it nuts that in the country’s capital city we have to search around on the ‘Net, try reading road signs on StreetView, and ask friends, were we can legally park? I’ve even resorted to chasing postmen down to the street to ask them if they knew the motorbike/residents’ bays/pay-and-display rules.

There should be an obligation on local authorities to publish this information in a prominent way.

They do:

Just get an app? I use ‘bike bays’

Hi mate,

Chiswick isn’t great on bike bays beyond the few just off Chiswick High Road. (and thus parking apps don’t work well out here :( - best way to check is council websites).

The High Road is in Hounslow and there are various bike bays on the side streets and these are all free… e.g.

  • Belmont Road near big Sainsburys.

  • Linden Gardens across the road from small Tesco (bonus railing/bar to lock bike to AND near police station)

  • Glebe Street

  • Annandale Road (right next to Barclays and opposite Turnham Green Terrace)

  • Cranbrook Road opposite small Sainsburys (Careful, often a squeeze with all the delivery scooters)

Outside of these you can park in any resident bays for free and any mixed use bays. Most people leave their bikes on the street this way or in a front yard if there’s one. Do NOT park in Pay and Display bays as mentioned - i.e. the whole of Turnham Green Terrace! We used to live on the bottom end of Annandale Road and used to just leave the bikes in the resident bay there. No permit needed.

If you are parking near Turnham Green Tube station then note the two small mini roundabouts - the closest one lies in Hounslow and the further one lies in Ealing. Any resident bays in Ealing including on The Avenue is fine. Some people park in the car “park” next to the second roundabout by the Polish Shop/Wine Rack but note this is private. If you need to park near to here then the best place is on The Avenue (Ealing), or Flanders Road (Hounslow) or Thornton Avenue (Hounslow). Again, these are all free and no permits needed. I’m NOT sure about the pay and display just by the Polish Shop/Wine Rack/by the bus stop.

Park right in Hounslow - there are regular checks by wardens - lots of them. Ealing has less (they roam around on 50cc scooters).
