no matter what i tell them, i give up!.

thank you everyone.** :pinch:

As to the ‘are motorcycles dangerous?’ huh? sorry? wat? didnt hear you, youngster ull have to speak up.What? in my day if you blasphemed like that u would have been hung shot whipped dismembered or forced to kiss the ugliest girl in town!!!

:stuck_out_tongue:

bikes are as dangerous as the rider, just like guns bombs knives and cars

point settled.

lol

Well put trash puppy:D you wrote what i was thinking,

Is’nt everything connected with humans dangerous?:w00t:

THE MOST DANGEROUS THING ABOUT MOTORBIKE’S IS THE NUT THAT CONNECT’S THE HANDLEBAR’S TO THE SEAT!!! :w00t::w00t:

That should give them something to think about! :stuck_out_tongue:

Biking is dangerous, but life is dangerous. Anyone could be killed crossing the road. None of us know if we will be here tomorrow. There is a risk in riding bikes, but there is a risk in many things - dangerous sports, cycling, driving, living in certain areas, walking back at night from the bus stop, smoking, drinking, travelling - the list is endless.

I’m lucky with my family as they have always been quite laid back about things like biking. I expect maybe your folks are just worried and concerned about you and don’t want to lose you. Would they ever consider going pillion or anything with you on a quiet road to see what it’s like, or want to meet your biking buddies who could reassure them a bit?

Good luck anyway

:)

Are any of the family overweight, or smoke?

Tell how dangerous that is, cancer risks, heart attacks etc. Smoking kills more people that biking every year.

oh come on:ermm:…of course they’re dangerous, unless you leave em locked up in the garage .Yes there is a proportionate relationship between rider skill and level of danger but there are so many potential hazards that are beyond the control of the rider , and even the most skilled rider can have a momentary loss of concentration that may not cause him much harm while driving a car but may put him in extreme danger on a bike.

Having said that ,i am happy for my 2 girls to be bikers as i believe the benefits generally outweigh the dangers.
Anyhow’ if they weren,t dangerous i wouldn’t bother riding em

None of us are going to live forever - it’s the quality of your life that counts - not the quantity - motorcycles add to the quality of my life - time spent on motorcycles is time well spent in my book - if I die on a bike then I’ll have died doing something I love and living in the moment - time spent wrapped up in cotton wool is time wasted. (to be fair though, I don’t have kids - if I did, that would put things in a different light).

I agree with the above about danger being an inherent part of the pleasure I get from motorcycling (same I guess for climbers, parachutists etc) It’s only by risking life that you come to appreciate it - it’s an existential thing - live in the moment - motorcyles put me firmly in the moment - on the bike there is no past or future - there is only NOW.

Sorry though - this type of argument probably won’t work with your family!

i didnt know they were dangerous!! im going to complain to someone , why isnt there a health warning painted on the tank to warn me!!!

think i’ll contact my solicitors and try get some compensation for the shock im now suffering cos nobody old me they were dangerous :w00t:.

my dad has finally hung up his boots this year, at 74 yrs old, and all he ever said to me about riding was, be careful of the cars !!

question: which is more dangerous - riding my bike everyday through putney traffic to get to work and back or using the bus with school kids? At least when my bike gives me sh:)t I wont be arrested for locking her in the garage, stripping her down and pouring lubricants down her pipes!

Here’s an interesting fact…

Non-Motorcylist’s die every day!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

My inlaws think that bikes are dangerous, but seeing they have never ridden before i tell them to shut up.

The only reason your family know motorbikes are dangerous is cos some pr@ keeps posting videos of bike crashes:w00t:

If bikes are not dangerous why did I spend a significant part of this afternoon in a room full of thousands of pounds worth of of leather, kevlar and armour with many times more value of helmets, boots and armoured gloves downstairs?

I know of no nearby stores selling so much protective gear for driving or cycling. My view is that motorcycling is dangerous, just like rock climbing, parachuting or potholing. But like exponents of those sports we protect ourselves and behave in ways that protect us. If we don’t we are much more likely to end up dead than people who don’t ride motorcycles.

It is futile to argue that motorcycling is not dangerous because by doing so you are implying you don’t understand the dangers. If you disagree, before posting, look at any of the recent “I hit diesel” posts.

And this from a man who dumped his ex off the back of his bike only yesterday lol:)

You can choose your friends…

Bikes are not dangerous. My bike is currently parked outside my house on it’s side stand. And it’s not harming anyone. OK when I ride it to work later I might cause it to collide with something, and I’ll get hurt - or someone in a big lump of metal will fail to see me and they might hit me and I’ll get hurt.

My wife is more worried that I’ll get hurt at work and if I forget to text her during a shift she begins to convince herself that something bad has happened (my record is 18 hours at work without a single text. She went ballistic when I eventually got home:D) .

Darryl - I believe you’re ‘job’? Do they worry about you at work?

Bikes are venerable…inconsiderate car drivers are dangerous!

blimey, a post from DarrylJ that consist of more than a link to some liveleak video :w00t:

I need a lie down

so do i.
