Is it possible that anyone has a good thing to say about a product bought from Halfords
Today’s rant is about tyre pumps.
Halfords Footpump. Cheap, worked for a while but seized up. piston gummed up and wouldnt un gum. No piston action
Feeling all modern, got an electric one you can plug into a 12v socket. Packed up. Took it apart to fix it. Put it in bin.
Feeling un modern, went back to a foot pump because there’s less to go wrong. Went up market with Michelin brand. The guage packed up, the bits that hold it in the ‘down’ position fell off. Serviceable but crap.
Feeling like treating myself, went for a double barrel foot pump, complete with guage. Draper branded. Unpacked, connected to valve, connecter snaps. Shite. Total fuckin shite.
People, I am at the end of my tether. Someone recommend me a friggin foot pump.
And ladies, if you want to buy me one for valentine’s day, thats cool, but I want quality.
my foot pump from Halfords (double barrel) suffered the same fate. It would sort of still do the job for a while but you could hear most of the air in each pump escape like houdini… Now it would take about 10times the effort to pump sth up!
Proud of you Andy, foot pumps are the way ahead. I used to wear foot pumps for games at primary school, they only came in black with elastic gussets.
Not sure Halfords is the place to go for footwear.
Ok I now know where I have been going wrong, i wear foot pumps while operating my foot pumps, and all will be cool. Off down Halfords to see if I can get meself a pair first thing int mornin
In 1993 I bought a car/bike battery charger from Halfords in Mitcham, since then it’s had regular usage during winter time and it’s still going strong (albeit I’ve extended the cables by about 50ft!)
I can’t understand why people buy footpumps. They’re awkward to use and inefficient. You’re far better off getting one of these. Moves a lot more air per stroke, is easier to use (and read the gauge), doesn’t damage your shins, and will probably last a lot longer. Had mine a couple of years now and works great.
Get on a cycle website and buy yourself a paddock pump. The ones that look like dynamite detonators. Well worth it.
Or… Get a compressor! You’ll never look back!
Ahhhhh Halfords… The only shop where you can buy the stuff you need, but having to put up with the awful customer service is pretty interesting… I got spat in the face and called a **** when I was in there last Sunday and that was comparatively a pleasant visit.
Slipper - chain reaction cycles should sort you out with a pump
If you just want air, there’s quite a bit to be found floating around in the atmosphere. Having it in your tyre, or the means to put it there, at a specific time and place is a different matter.
Actually, as I think about it, don’t most charge 20p these days?
Top tip on the paddock pump, may get myself one of those. Will it do car tyres in a reasonable amount of time ?
Never been spat on in Halfords, not likely to happen either as I’ve slept on it and I’m not going in there, even for Jetstream style pumps
I think garages charge for air compressor use, but i have been to many where its out of order.
Valentine’s day has so far yielded no quality footpump. But I got a nice box of chilli chocs. No card, well you cant eat the card anyway so not bothered.
Very rarely nowadays. It’s usually a 50p charge. The Sainsbury’s closest to me did offer it until some guy crashed into the pump
Those paddock pumps look good, I’d always wondered if they were any good. Are they all ok for use on motorbikes? Maybe it’s me but some of their nozzles looked a bit small to fit on a motorbike valve?
I got a socket set from halfords when I was 17. I am now wrong side of 40 & it is still going strong. Mate was a mechanic on yts and had same set he used daily for years until he could afford snap on. For some reason the snap on was always borrowed and not returned so he went back to using the old set and still has it now.
