If you do not want to become part of the new Mobile Phone Directory then simply text or call them to opt out of their service.
You can become ex-directory by texting the letter ‘E’ to 118800 from your mobile phone or you can call on 0800 138 6263. Standard network charges apply. The first time 118 800 contacts you you will be sent an SMS reminding you about how to become ex-directory. Please allow up to 4 weeks for your ex-directory request to take effect.
Well its not like there will be a massive listing of names and numbers to look at so the person looking for you doesnt actually get to see your number.
If you don’t give out numbers, how does 118800 put me in touch with the person I want to contact? When you search on 118800.co.uk, we’ll send an SMS message to the person you’re seeking givng them your contact details so they can call you back.
I think this is outrageous, we get enough calls on the home phone with no one at the other end at home thanks to the lovely auto dial call centres grrrrr, don’t want this crap on my mobile too!!!
I’ve just had a quick look at their site, am I right in saying that if anyone wanted to get in contact with me they could just find me on there? That’s just wrong
They dont just have access to your info on the screen - they dont see your number, you’d get a text to say someone is trying to get in contact with you and its up to you if you call them or not. Its no big deal really.
What grips my sh **** it is the fact you have to opt out and then have to wait a further 4 weeks for them to take you off the directory! What a pi **** ss-take
I dont think this has been pubilcised enough. In fact, I did a lot of checking it out before I posted it, because I thought it might have been a scam to collect numbers.
Fair point, I have already given out my mobile number to the weirdest person on the planet…YOU So I suppose having a few other weirdo’s contacting me won’t make much difference lol
