Was riding to work this morning and had a blue yamaha 125 behind me really loud managed to look at his exhaust and it seemed to say micron on it, I assumed they went bust???
Exhaust Technologies, the company that produces the Micron range of motorcycle exhaust systems, has been put into administration and has ceased trading with immediate effect.
Contrary to initial expectations in the press, the likelihood of any more motorcycle exhausts leaving the Derbyshire factory is extremely slim. Micron and Magnex, the car exhaust brand, were both produced by Exhaust Technologies Ltd (ETL) which, in turn, is part of CLF Ltd, which has OE exhaust production contracts with Aston Martin, Bentley and Ford amongst others and is still trading in Administration.
It is on record that ETL had been losing money for the last three years, its trading supposedly secured by CLF. BDN has learned that no funds were actually forthcoming and that ETL was allegedly allowed to run down in a sacrificial move to extract funds and facilitate a management buyout of CLF. Whether this would still be possible or even advantaged by the administrator isnt clear at the time of going to press. Further lack of clarity regarding future corporate activities is created by the fact that CLF majority shareholder Paul Slater, who is not a director of any of the companies, personally owns the Micron and Magnex brand names. So it is theoretically possible that Micron could re-emerge at some later date…
Micron bust ! My youth has come to an end for sure… But does anyone remember Piper exhausts are they still in business?.. 4 into 1 on Z650’s and so on a great sound …
Maybe there shouild be a CD of old bike exhaust tones… starting with the MV 750 unretricted!
