MCN London finished

Well no need to go to the ExHell center any longer MCN London Motorcycle Show Scrapped After 15-Year Run | Visordown

Doesn’t surprise me, it was struggling to be decent before covid and post like most things have gone up in price plus any European exhibitor or seller would have extra customs paperwork to fill out to be there.

When I went a while back it was massively underwhelming. There was a classic car show in the next hall and combined tickets were good value so I went to that too and it saved the day.

Birmingham also makes a lot of sense from a transport link perspective.

Most trade shows have been pretty pants post covid. I think for many they didn’t see a lot of change on their bottom line by not doing them, so it makes it harder to justify doing them now.

Only went once in 2013 when I won a ticket here. Wondered why people actually spent money to go.

Maybe back in the days before the internet, this was the place to get bargains and find about new gadgets, clothing and bikes. When I went I wasn’t in the market for anything and the deals I saw weren’t that exciting.

The food etc was way overpriced and too many people, made it feel a bit like being trapped in a mall.

I was also quite a bit in pain having just broken my collarbone and travelling on public transport from Cheltenham didn’t help my mood!

Often it’s to get to touch and feel things before buying. I’ve advised a friend of mine to go into a local physical shop to get his first riding kit, rather than use the internet. Deals have never really been a thing at these shows. You might find the odd bit, but there is the trade angle to it and the manufacturers don’t want to annoy the dealer network that they rely on.

cant say im surprised.

Cost the same as NEC to get into, but the show is much smaller, about half a day at best (when NEC is a full day), many vendors dont go.
The NEC is an hour from London on the train, and a better show

The Road Racing & Superbike show at the Ally Pally was great, but started going downhill once MCN took over, rebranded it & tried to turn it into a London equivalent of the NEC show.

I last went a couple of years back & it really was dreadful. £20 or so entry & I’d seen everything within about 90 minutes.

As I understand it the UK motorcycle industry is on its knees at the moment caused by bike thefts causing very high insurance costs, especially for younger riders. Very sad to see this show end.

^ This.

My insurance has just gone up £200, even though I’m about as low risk a customer as they come (now) and I took one bike off my multi-bike policy as well. God knows how anyone can afford to get into biking nowadays

Mine’s just dropped by £300!

This was as a result of me letting them know that I’m a lazy fecker who can’t be arsed to work anymore, so I no longer need commuter cover. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Wow, that’s a huge drop!

I do have a need for “Business” on mine, as I ride to clients offices now and then. Makes me wonder how much that’s costing me. I’m sure it wasn’t much if any when I originally added it.

This year my insurance prices remained pretty much the same for the same cover. Both on bikes and car.

When I looked to remove Class 1 off mine, it made hardly any difference to my Fully Comp insurance.
