Matt in Bejing (pics)

I received this email from MattVFR today, and thought it might prove interesting to the LB’s:

hello hello hello
Just got back from beijing where we had a double header race in the porsche asia carrera cup
practice went well , and we posted some really good times on very old tyres, so all was looking good for qualifying… however, if it can go wrong it will go wrong… we lined up for qualifying to find that we actually went slower on new tyres!!! so, a promising front row start suddenly turned in to 7th place!and this on a track which is notoriously difficult to over take…
so, race one, matt started well into the first corner, and made up a place to sixth, but two cars behind him came together causing the race to be stopped. so, race restared and we ended up finishing sixth.

Race two. Starting from sixth (finishing position from race one) we are waiting on the grid then the heavens open up, race declared wet! massive rush and drama as everyone swopped to wet tyres. re formed on the grid, matt gets another good start and gets up to fifth, dicing with three other cars for the rest of the race we eventually finish forth but a bloody good race
During the down time, i managed to do a bit of sight seeing (at last ) and went to visit the forbidden city and aslo the great wall of china. wow. the forbidden city was cool, but loads of it wasnt accesable due to restoration of course they dont tell you that when they charge you full price for admission (you only got to see about a quarter of what was available…)

The great wall however, is a different story all together… it was built to keep out the mongol hoards (genghis khan etc) from china and it is pretty serious! its about 4500 miles long and was built around 600bc (which is a real long time ago) but the most amazing thing for me was, having witnessed chiniese workmanship and working practises first hand was how the hell did it last so long??? anywyas iv included some pics from the forbidden city, the wall and the race. enjoy
Hope to hear from you all soon, kisses for girls, handshakes for boys…
Matt

oh yeah check out the pic of the fake kfc… hahahaha

Matt! I’m really jelous of you mate! Keep up sending awesome pics like that to us… nice job

mmmmmmmm Porsche. I want that car!

A-Ha coffee? They’ve really gone downhill since Take On Me…

Matt looks like your having the time of your life… I so wish I could bo there!! Lookin forward to your safe return… And of all the stories…

Looks fun!

I’ve been to Beijing and I’m sure he’ll agree (when he returns) that, because the Great Wall runs up and down the hills, some of the steps are incredibly steep! I don’t know if soldiers used to run and and down them in full kit, but they must have been fit as **** if they did!

hey everyone. if id known earlier that you guys did four as well as two wheels i wouldve put more pics up sooner… and yes, some of that wall is damn steep (should be interesting in winter when it snows) il keep you guys posted with all my goings on, just picked up a few more customers on the bike scene over here, the guy with the ex GMT94 world endurance bike (see shanghi motogp pics) which is about as pucca a factory bike as iv ever seen, and two other guys, one racing a heavely tuned ZX10 (183 bhp) and a guy with a mint hayden rep repsol blade. oh yeah, there has been a hint of me testing the GMT R1 so watch this space… keep it sticky side down people

nice pics …you got cool job you dont need a helper
