Margate meltdown

Weather was meant to be cr*p, Margate known to be dodgy dead seaside resort with high unemployment, drug issues, Dreamland long gone, coaster burnt down(again), high street has one upmarket shop,(Primark), why go to Margate???

Despite my reservations we went, and, What a great day, took the old A2 via Gillingham, Faversham, some good roads, weather was great, sandy beach was full of families, bikers, pubs/bars and NEW cafe’s, yes NEW cafe’s were full, trade stands on the harbour wall, as always the ace marshals organised things well with half the sea front shut off to cars, fish and chips were great followed by an ice cold cider, police bike presence was high, anyone stepping out of line was quickly nicked, although no speed traps or sneaky camera vans like Hastings.

Attendance was well down on Hastings and Southend but the BBC weatherman scared everyone off, next year If the weathers good I can imagine double the number of bikes.

As for Margate the town, Most of what I said at the begining still applies, however it does feel like some people have’nt given up and are trying to get it back to its former glory, give it ten years it could be another Brighton.

Yep agree, was a relaxing day, good weather (apart from the odd sprinkle) , no fighting to look at the bikes and no fighting to get to the place unlike Hastings which was a bloody nightmare,:w00t:

Margate used to be a brilliant day out 30 years ago when I was a kid, still got good memories

+1 nearly didnt bother after the hastings crawl , but was hot, sunny & well marshalled - good day out

Make sure you put this one in your diaries for next year, those that opted out missed a good day out, as the others said less manic than Hastings or Southend.
