I did a bit of paintballing at the weekend, got slaughtered! Anyway… im not sure if I should make a claim or not as a few of my friends have said I should. Basically what’s happened is I got shot a couple times at very closer range, abotu 1 foot away and once on each hand… right on the knuckles! :pinch: all the skin has gone, I thought it was down to the bone at first. My knuckles have also swollen up, and are still bleeding abit now… very sore and as a result im finding it hard using them… cant even ride a bike :crying:
The organisers of the paint ball gave all the required protection, except for gloves… which no body got and was never offered to have. I only got a pair of protective gloves after it had happened, so they did have them!. After it happned I also received no medical care, I was just given a bit of kitchen roll and a bottle of water and left to attend to my injuires myself. I had blood pouring all down my hands and over the ovals.
Being paint ball though im not sure a claim could be made!, be nice though… bit of money towards a new bike ;) plus I feel a bit done by in the way I was treated after the accident.
Nope… that’s the only problem. We just signed one each and they kept it. The paint ball course was a bit pants aswell!, it’s like it was just in the back of someone’s garden!.. seems like a quick money making business.
That’ll be a case of buyer beware I expect, you signed, they keep, you outta luck.
To be fair it is a leisure pursuit with a high risk aspect, that would be bit like trying to sue track day organisers because you fell off ( does happen - ask J Whitham esq. )
I am pretty sure unless they tie you to a tree, have their way with you in a level 4 Raunch party and cut your hand with an axe, you are wasting your time.
Pretty sure that their disclaimer is protecting them against any such attempts.
Yeah I doubt very much il go through with it, as like said… it’s a high rick activity and you know what your getting yourself into when your there. Just wanted to see opinions as im getting afew friends saying I should claim, but to be honest that’s not the way I do things. Im more of a “If you get hurt, then you get hurt” person.
Don’t be a douche bag, it should be obvious that you shouldn’t paintball any more without proper protection than you should ride a motorcycle, if you get hurt don’t look for somebody to blame, blame your own stupidity.
Well… ive gotta give you the “ptupidity comment”, I am prone to some of that!.. besides I wouldnt be comfortable making a claim as I couldnt do that to someone’s business.
I’ve been paintballing a few times, I have always taken my own gloves, the one’s I have been to only supply face masks and overalls, I don’t think you’d have a leg to stand on, imagine how many people have tried this!!
Good to see you see my point. Now that that’s out of the way GET BETTER SOON chap! Learn the lesson, take it like a man, don’t sue anybody and the next time you go paintballing take the right kit!
The mindlessness of some people regarding gloves never ceases to amaze me. You wouldn’t believe the amount of pizza guys / couriers I worked with that laughed at me for my leather gauntlets… that is, unless I binned a pizza scooter one day and slid down the road a bit on my hands and knees. Showing them the destroyed glove shut them up quick!
FWIW are there special gloves for paintballing? I’d imagine bike gloves with some knuckle protection would be perfect.
And oh… if the pain gets much remember there are other much painful places to get shot in if you’re not wearing the right protection :w00t: Also: Nurofen Plus is your friend! Eat 4 at once with water and call me in the morning.
The disclaimer you signed is irrelevant if your injury was due to inadequate safety briefing, inadequate marshalling or inadequate equipment as the disclaimer can only relate to things they haven o control over, such as your friends shooting a your unprotected hands at close range when they have been warned not to for example.
Did they say anything about not shooting at close range etc? Did they say anything about you should bring your own gloves? Are the members of UKPSF the industry body?
They should be insurred on a public liabiity basis.
C’mon, be fair, it’s a dangerous place out there and there’s always got to be someone culpable, stands to reason.
Just the other day I had to take legal action against my wife who’d thoughtlessy brought me a cup of tea in bed - stupidly she had made it very hot, and nowhere on the cup was there any warning about the possible high temperatures ( and potential risk ) therein. Not to mention the toast that came with it - I suffered badly from crumb related scrathes to sensitive parts of my anatomy, forcing me to get up early, which in turn startled the kitten into knocking over the cup of tea - sheer recklessness on her part is going to cost her dearly.
I used to play paintball a lot. Full face masks are a real luxury now. Been hit at close quarters on the cheek. Hurts too when the guns are set at 400fpm. Best thing is to go and shoot person who shot you. All part of the game, keeps you on your toes if you know it is going to hurt. Needless to say, I was not hit very often after that! Lesson learned! Don’t bother sueing, take pain killers and get on with life.
