M6 Toll Overcharging

I have made two return journeys on M6 Toll recently. It was quite some time ago I used it previously and now, they don’t issue a receipt at the toll booth. To get a receipt, and see how much they charge, you have to go online. I would advise anyone using this road to do just that, for one leg of each of my two trips recently, the automatic system read my number plate as belonging to a car and charged me accordingly - that five pounds more than for a bike!
To get a refund you have to contact their customer services, not a particularly rapid experience!

Don’t know if this works for you but some banks now send notifications to you on your phone the moment the payment is made. Can’t speak for all but Monzo and HSBC do for me…

In fact it’s worth having a card like Monzo where you load up small amounts to use on purchases like this (or to link to these accounts). You can quickly see how much you are charged and can only have a small amount in case card gets stolen / lost

Won’t resolve having to call customer services (never easy) but at least you’ll know pretty quickly and without having to go online.
