M23 Average Speed Check

Spotted a couple of lovely yellow poles that have gone up over the weekend between J8 & J9 (as you come over the hill from the M23/M25 merge south bound).
Guessing it’s average speed check cameras going in for the roadworks coming up. Managed to find this, but that’s about it… Bridge works M23

Update: 50 mph posted speed limit, assume the average speed cameras are in action (no notice saying they are, but better safe than sorry). Hard shoulder being used by traffic.

Cheers for the heads up. Hopefully it’s only for the roadworks.

cheers for the heads up… saw them as well yesterday but I thought they were leftovers from previous…

BTW I have noticed the M25 speedcameras going anti-clockwise just after the M23 junction flash quite regularly… be wary

and the hidden cameras between junctions 5 through to 7

inter webby didgeridoo do dah here

those are the ones I mean Art… Gone to Dagenham last couple of weekends and everytime I go (on a Friday) they always flash…

Although I never understood the ‘hidden’ part. Because all cameras on motorway are technically hidden as they’re behind signs?

You’re doing that all wrong, Dagenham is definitely a departure point rather than a destination.

I’ve heard the M25 cameras have been flashing like Christmas tree lights. Some say they’re only monitoring the variable speed limitss, others say they’re monitoring all speed limits.

Both times they’ve flashed, there have been no variable limits that I could see…

and Dagenham is a destination if your other half’s folks live there… :stuck_out_tongue:

Cameras on the south bound side are up and rear facing. Not on yet, I hope :ermm:

you know, i’ve heard they dont work on bikes.

for example, when we had them on the A4 across the hammersmith flyover, the speed limits were regularly broken and nothing ever happened…

there have been reports (sorry cant remember where, otherwise I would post a link) of certain M25 speed traps being permanently on, temporary speed restriction or not, so if you are doing over 70 you may well get a ticket. not all the way round though, only certain spots and 5 - 7 does ring a bell.

for the first 5 years none of them worked at all, so it seems they are trying to get their moneys worth now.

and getting caught on a motorway is just pointless… well it isn’t as you get 3 but you know what I mean, it’s not like getting caught hooning it on a beautiful twisty road

5 to 7 is definatly on all the time. The cameras are “hidden” in that they are grey and not overhead. Speeding 5 to 7 is a bit dumb anyway now there is no longer a hard shoulder. If someone breaks down they have to close lanes remotely which seems a dangerous way to run a motorway if you ask me. Before someone says, but I will see any stationary vehicles, the motorcyclist who died hitting a stationary ambulance on the A3 didn’t.

^^^ Agree. And the chances of the stationary car having their hazard lights or break lights on… pretty slim.

This morning there is a posted 50 mph speed limit, hard shoulder is being used by traffic. No notice of the average speed check cameras are in action so assume they are.
