Being the trackday fan I am, I think it’s about time I made the move to using a dedicated track bike instead of my PAJ Gixxer. I need a bike that I’m not going to worry about whilst taking my track-riding to the next level (i.e. semi competent ). The K5 is a wonderful track bike, but it’s a tad overkill for my skill-level currently and would cost a fortune to repair if I were to have a little whoopsy-daisy.
Does anybody know where to find track-bikes for sale? I’m looking at least for a K1-750, though in an ideal world, would prefer a K4 750. I’ve owned and track’d both of these bikes before so know what they’re capable of, especially after seeing B fly by everyone and their dog on my last 750 at Silverstone.
My budget will be the friendly side of £3k and I’d be looking for something already track-prepped, i.e. suspension/brake upgrades, track fairings and possibly spare wheels for wets. Is this a reasonable expectation? I’m not looking to buy straight-away, as I need to shift my DRZ first.
I shall check on the race forum for you tonight mate. If there is nothing obvious I can post up an ad describing what you are after.
How about a track prepared SV. Theres a few kicking around and you would be pleasantly surprised at how good they really are. Also, I may be able to supply part worns for a sensible price!
I need to re-assemble it, so it could be ready for the nice TD weather.
It has gravel rash on the frame and fork and swing-arms but the last two are covered by the spares list!
It has a full akra 4-2-1 system, ECU mapped to match. I will fit brand new body race body work (white). Harris fairing brace. Wavy discs on front (cheaper than OE discs!). Valve clearences done 2K miles ago. I have a set of air tubes copied from the crescent items to go on.
Spare bits.
Tank - it’s pushed down on one side Q badly but good. (I’d suggest you run with this and save the minter.)
Front end complete - forks, calipers, yolks
Rear swing-arm CW spare STD shock
ECU
Spare wheels CW discs
Airbox
All road gear apart from seat unit (in blue and white) and stock zorst system.
Thanks guys! Pete, I could very well be interested. We’ll have to have a chat over a coffee some time soon. I’ll be starting trackdays in May I reckon, possibly April, but I hate booking only to turn up to wet event, though with a track bike I’d be more inclined to learn to ride in the wet…
Jay, get a van and take the bike in that. Spare set of wheels with full wets. Last year was my first time out on full wets on the ZX7 and I had my knee down going round clearways, they are awesome. I am usually a complete chicken in the wet but I have now changed my mind after a few trips out on the wets.
Definately, the track bike will be track only and will be transported in a van. Quite looking forward to being able to properly learn to navigate a bike round a track quickly
Got my R6 for £2750 with Ohlins front and rear suspension, steering damper, full race exhaust, braided hoses, crash bungs, full track fairing as well as lots of spares (wets on wheels, spare fairing, swingarm, tyres etc). £150 extra for the paintjob and I’m well happy with it!
Is it your van you’ll be transporting it in? I seem to be remember reading you couldn’t drive (correct me if I’m wrong!).
I had a quick look on eBay today Silver and saw a few I liked. It seems my budget should cover a fairly wide range, though I’d like to make the money stretch and do any post-purchase customisations necessary to make it my own.
It’s going by van yes, but no, I won’t be driving. Mostly Focused Events trackdays it looks like as well
I have merc sprinter van crew cab seats 5 people plus 2m load space,
I think im going to buy a 3 bike trailor so i can take my bike and my misses and kids when i got to wales or spain to see mates.
I going to do my first track day on 8 june, brands with focused (thanks to girlfriend)
Im shure that will be it and ill be addicted so maybe ill be able to give you a lift Jay!!
