Leashes and Licenses...

Having recently witnessed an unleashed staffie* attack a white poodly thingie and it’s owner (who was trying to protect the sheep poodle), I thought I would pose the question. What experiences do you have of agressive animals?

*Id just like to point out that I dont think all staffies are agressive and happen to like staffies, but this one was not under control by it’s spliff smoking owner who didnt give a tuppence what the dog did and was quite happy to walk off, leaving the poodle in its own blood…

i have always had big aggressive dogs.

but even when on/off the lead they are under my control, my dog knows im the master, and he does as he is told…end of.

some people dont think when it comes to dogs…so in respect of that they shouldnt be allowed to own one. personaly i have never had any probs with dogs, or been really been attacked by one, i have had aggressive dogs have a slight go at me, but if you show no fear and dont back down they soon learn they aint gonna win!

dont think licences are the answer its the fkwit owners need educating, was walking my akita the other day and a donut let there dog off lead where it decided to have a go, result one labrador running away yelping, one smug looking akita  oh and the prk stood there laughing wiv his brats till told him next time she can play with his throat the ar$ehole !!

the dogs soft as the proverbial really just doesnt like to be attacked…who does ?

I think all dog owners should be made to licence and insure their pooches and also go on a basic CBT type training course on how to walk a dog properly and how to scoop it’s poop:D

I currently have a Rotti and have been bought up around them since a very young age, still have all my limbs and fingers intact :stuck_out_tongue: the reason for this is that they have all been bought up correctly and properly trained. Our current girl Skye is as soft as anything and I have lost the count of how many times she has been picked on by other dogs, especially smaller ones who are so badly trained it’s un true!! Luckily she doesn’t take any crap from these dogs.

I do think insurance should be compulsory and training for the dogs and owners should be a must, the one thing I hate to see is teenagers walking around with their dogs, they probably have no idea how to train them and probably have no means of paying for vet treatment if their dogs gets ill, does my head in.

Not dog licences, dog-owners licences.

Except, of course, that would result in more abandoned mutts than you could shake a stick at. Not that you’d really want to shake a stick at them, because that would end up in mayhem.

I often like to nip out for a run around some woods near where I live - I often get chased by dogs that are off the lead - my usual tactic is to ignore them/shout ‘stay’ in an authoritative voice:angry: etc - usually the owners are responsible and call them off - last year though I got bitten on the inner thigh by a Corgi which came out of nowhere like an exocet missile (I’m sure that it was going for my nads! :crying:. The owner apolagised etc - the skin was bruised not broken - I let it go.I think that owners should have licences and be accountable - perhaps there should be grades of licences - e.g. no licence for 125cc type dogs (poodles, chihuahas etc) and more serious licences for 1000cc type stuff (rottis, dobermans, etc).

I have faced many a rotti/doberman etc down when I lived in sarf lahndan with an ice cold stare:alien:

i have had a number of friends and family who have reared Dobermans and they are the softest dog you can get in the home with their master around.

When i was a baby i am told i would repeatedly put my finger in this big Dobi’s Eye and he would sit there and take it until i was moved away

Saying that you try and get into their drive without an invite and you will spill some blood!

I think we all know it is the owners and not the dog as most dogs just want food and the love of a good master.

You also have to ask why would you want a dog in a high rise council estate?

I couldnt help laughing at this - but I do see your point - there are varying risks involved. But even your account above - regarding a CORGI of all (125cc type) animals…has apparently posed more of a threat to you in real life than the apparently more ‘risky’ cc dogs you categorise…!?

any dog can pose a threat, all dogs should be chipped and have a registration number, with a registered owner, who evers name is on teh log is responsible for that animal and its actions. i could see that working…kinda!

No bad dogs just bad owners. I’ve always had dogs, much prefer them to cats, which are not really anything other than pisstaking unpaying tenants anyway.

Thing that always gets my goat, are dog owners who do not clean up after their beloved pooch has shat all over the pavement, path, grass, etc.

Licenses are only the answer if it doesn’t just become ANOTHER tax, and they actually spend the money on enforcement.

This debate could go on for a long while!

Apart from the obvious size difference between breeds of dogs it shouldn’t make any difference if we are talking about a German Shepherd or a Jack Russell, both breeds need proper training and need to be socialised with other dogs and people from a young age.

I have met so many people who have small dogs and don’t feel the need to train them because they are ‘small’, I mean what harm can they do, well, my mate has and American Bulldog, he’s the size of a bloody horse but last year he was started on by some sort of terrier, this terrier ripped his ears to shreds :frowning: and what did the big vicious American Bulldog do? he didn’t harm the other dog but basically told him to bugger off because he’s properly trained. Poor lad had to have a massive operation :frowning:

I have volunteered at an animal home before, they work hard to rehome dogs who have been given up for whatever reasons and 7wheeelwagon is quite right, implementing licenses would only see many more dogs turning up at these already over run charities

Bad Dogs = Bad Owners

Whenever we are out walking and I complain about having to step round dog mess Jackie always used to say “It isnt the dogs, it’s the owners.”

I used to say - “No - it is definitly the dog’s!”

Fair point powerpuffgirl! On the other hand - thank God it wasn’t anything bigger (then it might have actually HAD my nads! :crying:

[Rant]

liscenses are needed so i can excecute dogs that poop on the path… oh and the owners that let them

[/Rant]

yes 100%… i’ll deal with you later!:D:P

That’s a stupid statement, how can onwers stop their dogs carrying out their business on the path!!! If they need to go, they need to go, simple as, just make sure you clean up after em

Afraid I don’t have anything indoors that can lick it’s own arse, that’s the rule :stuck_out_tongue:
