KTM Superduke?? Should I do it :)

Went for a test ride on a new Superduke Saturday, absolutely loved it! But still trying to make my mind up as to whether or not I should go for it.

I’ve always ridden Sports bikes, had them all, and currently have an 06 R6. But I love the uprighty riding position (and it’s not actually that upright on the Duke), and the low rev/high gear lazy riding - with the option of ringing the nuts off it as well
I’m coming round to the idea that I won’t miss the speed, I rarely use it and this thing will still keep up and out do most in the twisties.

Anyone here have one, or experience of one? Any niggling issues with them, apart from the fuel gauge?

do it go over to the orange side;) you’ll not regret it

ducati pete will be the guy to give you the run down on the sd

I also went for a test ride on a KTM Superduke and Ducati Hypermotard and can’t stop thinking about it :crazy:If Ducati had the Power of KTM I wouldn’t think twice

I know I won’t, it was to much of a laugh to regret it. Amazing bit of kit, just need to get the holiday out of the way in couple of weeks and find the right one

i have always fancied 1 too but dont know if i did to choose an Aprilia tuono though.

Yep, going for a test ride on a Tuono soon as well. Mostly as a friend prefers that for the pillion, his misses comes out for most rideouts and touring etc. I just prefer the SD on looks so far, its smaller which suits me

That coupled with the fact I can get a 2nd SD cheaper than a 2nd Tuono Factory (has to be the factory if you’re comparing the two!)

I was test riding a Superduke too on Saturday:D Think i will keep the triple for another year but after that, I’ve found the perfect replacement!! Glad they sorted it out in the aesthetics dept for 07 before that the front end looks a bit slabby - if there is such a word:P. Check out the S3 1050 too - thats seriously worth a look:cool:

How wierd is that, it must have been SuperDuke demo saturday or something. My bike was in on Saturday for a couple of bits so I arranged an hour on the SuperDuke whilst waiting (did you guys do your rides from P&H?) The KTM is like biking crack…I spent an hour wringing its neck and behaving like a very bad man, and now sit here thinking about the logistics of selling my year old 750 Gixer and putting down cash for a white one with twin Akkys. I can get a nice deal but moving abroad in September so would be a bit silly to just buy it for like two or three months…BUT, I crave/need this bike on a genetic level - simple as that.

What to do, what to do…

I bought my first superduke in May 05.

I’m on my second one now, used as a track tool. I love it like a fat gurl loves cake.

i was testing one down at Bracken, shame the bank holiday traffic down there limited my true appreciation of the bike, was seriously tempted to go for an 07 model onwards there and then, but then my 1050 is a seriously good bike too in a similar mould, but a year from now…

What they like in Bracken? I might go down there this week and have a look, they’re only round corner from work

Anyone done a touring trip to the continent on a Super Duke??

I was thinking of taking 3/4 weeks to tour Europe (mainly Mediterranean coasts) in August doing some camping.

I have a 750 Gixer right now and done some Euro trips on sportsbikes so know what to expect but would be interested in anyones experience of doing similar on the KTM. This could be the clincher for me as I am sooooo keen to get one after Saturday

The way I see touring (on a KTM) is:

Good Points

Great for the twisties (Alp’s, Pyrenees)

Good riding position - more upright/less cramped

Better on dodgy gravelly roads

Bad points

Full range is pretty poor

No fairings but I don’t really ride Autoroutes anyhow…

Don’t know what the luggage carrying ability is like with the underseat zorsts

If you are a SD owner and taken longer trips then I’d appreciate your input on the practicalities over a sports bike. Naked versus faired is not so much of an issue on these trips for me as I rarely use the Autoroute unless I really have to make up time.

I only managed 30mins on the A1(M) and it wasn’t that bad, although obviously a big tourer is far better. My R6 isn’t exactly great, the tiny fairing and screen hardly makes any difference if I’m honest.

You can buy a fly screen from KTM - £26.99 which will help

Luggage - Ventura do a kit for SD, pretty ugly and no doubt pricey but they are good kits for anything beyond a Tailpack.

well i think if you’re gonna be touring then you gotta be looking at an 07 model onwards due to the increased fuel tank size, optional touring screen and better mpg (at least in standard trim)

seem pretty friendly enough:) they had 4 secondhand pre 07 superdukes down there. They still have a brand new 06 model and several 07 models which i was told could be had for a discount price… definitely worth a look:)

Cheers. My hour’s test ride managed to cover about 40 miles with a combination of fast A roads, in and out of town, twisty B Roads (soooo much fun) and a last little blast on the dual carriageway. Nothing gave me undue concern over doing mileage on the bike.

That said my enthusiasm has been tempered a little by checking out all the moaney posts on www.superduke.net everyone is posting problems about snatchy throttle and fueling issues having to be sorted with aftermarket Akro pipes and finagling.

Could be of course that they are a bunch of cr*p yanks with no concept of how a twin performs and the throttle finesse of an axe murderer. I certainly didn’t notice any issues with it (certainly no more than other twins tried).

Were the problems with the early ones or the 07 onwards? coz the fueling was one of the things that got revised on the 07. I rode an 05 one with Akras and remap and it was smooth as;)

Mines not bad with the Akras and the remap. Seeing as it’s petty much a track bike though, it’s not really a issue.

Ducati have this aspect of twins of to a tee.

The yanks on SD.net do whine a bit!

BTW - I use hyside MCs in Collier Row. I’ve had nothing but first class service from them.

I noticed a poster at High Beech the other day that Hyside have an open day in a weeks time(i think)

Get yourself a test ride dude:cool:http://www.hysidemotorcycles.co.uk/news.php
