MADRID (AFP) - Spain will lower its speed limit outside major cities as part of a string of measures unveiled by the government Tuesday aimed at slashing its oil imports by 10 percent per year.
It is exactly what the US - capital of the car - did during the 70’s oil crisis. They dropped the maximum national speed limit to 55. They also passed laws that meant that cars with odd numbered registration plates could only buy fuel on odd days of the month and even plates on even days. Whilst the fuel rationing measured only lasted a short period, the speed limit has still not risen in some states after 35 years.
******** there would, we get shafted by the highest prices/taxes in the western world and there’s barely a whimper of complaint.
(And yes, I know some Scandinavian countries have higher taxes/prices but they also have higher incomes and much better public services/transport etc.)
