Hi,
My Generic XOR 125 is pretty quick up to 50mph but struggles to go any faster. It seems to have very little power and will struggle to maintain 50mph on even a slight incline.
My local bike shop suggested it might be restricted through the CDI . Can anybody confirm this or what could I do to give it a little more oomph!
Thanks .
There are probably better people on here to answer this as I’ve never owned a scooterino but I’d say 50mph out of a 125 scooter is probably about right. What makes you think it should be any faster?
If you’re really keen to find out, you could whip the carb out, check for restrictor plates and give it a service while you’re at it. CDI wise, your best bet is either eBay or finding someone who can lend you a compatible unit to test.
Why would you restrict a 125cc scooter?
you could change the varitor weights & fiddle & check for any plastic washers in the carb that will let you maintain top speed but at the cost of pull away
check the exhaust for any washers welded in or a disruptor pipe
but other than that 55-55mph is about right for a scoot
my other half has a et2 (still 50cc) & it will do 50 but its more than happy at 45 I went on the ET2 tuning forum with the bits quoted above
For a 125 to be learner legal it has to be restricted to 12bhp. Many are restricted by the CDI refusing to spark above a rev limit. You can change the weights in the variator, but that will not normally improve top speed as that is limited by the variator design and the rev limiter. What changing weights can do is improve pick up meaning greater accelration at low speeds at the price fo poorer fuel economy.
Thanks for the replies so far. It’s not so much top speed but maintaining it. It accelerates well up to 50 but then refuses like it’s restricted to do any more and if there is any sort of incline it just gives up.
That might just be how it is, maybe I’m expecting too much ?
Like Wise and Giuliano say, it could be washers in the carb, restrictors in the exhaust, or the CDi. You should try the Chinese scooter forum as I understand the Generics are re-branded Chinese machines and there’s plenty of chat on there about de-restricting.
I think that’s normal speed for chinese scooter, otherwise it will start falling apart. http://chinesescoots.forumwise.com/chinesescoots-thread10803.html
Get a japanese make, it will do 60-70mph.
On the motorway coming home from Portsmouth I got an indicated 80 mph out of my 2006 CG125
That’s a geared bike. It doesn’t count ![]()
to be fare I think the Generic XOR 125 are made the same company as Peugeots or another well known brand & they are classed as a good Chinese scooter unlike the usual crap
& I think most of the Japanese’s branded scoots are made in china as well & are of similar performance
Was that downhill or were you overdue at Specsavers?![]()
My stock 2007 50 used to hit 47mph no problem so i guess there is something up with your bike
That was down hill, draped over the tank with a good tail wind and ‘L’ plates, I must have looked like a proper …

I thought it was 11kW or 14.8hp or have the changed it with all the recent raft of legislation?
