A few weeks ago noticed that my brake doesnt light up everytime i pull the brake lever.so i pull the brake level it goes on. second time on, third and onwards nothing. leave it a while turns on at the first pull…i suspect the connection. so gave it a clean with no change. called dobles and mechanic pointed to the rear brake. that it can get stuck and overright the front brake lever. gave it a clean and prob solved
until now. same thing happens no brake light… give rear brake a clean and now the rear brake turns the light but the front still doesnt do anything.
is there anything i can check? should i look for a new front brake switch?
Saturday Surgery is back this week. I have a couple of guys arriving at 11 ish, but if you could make it to Watford for mid afternoon I’ll sort it out for you.
I didn’t realise there are now four of you at chez Panagiotis! Congratulations on the new addition to the family.
Yes mate - the problem is likely to be inside the switch - there is a spring loaded contact that touches another contact when you pull the brake lever in - if these two contacts are tarnished you get the intermittent problem. The video is really helpful.
If you are busy and don’t have the time for the DIY a new switch isn’t that expensive.
so looked at the video and thought yeah i can do that in 15min! so went on and opened the switch up. as expected loads of moisture damage! went about taking it apart, and spend the next hour trying to put the fking switch back together!
didnt help that i dropped a piece and was looking for it for 5min! argg! anyway managed to clean it up put it back together and works perfectly again!
so big thanks mate! owe you a beer next time i see you!
ps yep surrounded by girls at the moment! hence i need to spend more time in the garage
Only just seen this post so this is just confirming what everyone else posted, but I had exactly the same issue on my CB1R - thanks to chris2332 for informing me
I got a cheap replacement from ebay which was crap and failed after a week, so got a real Honda part instead which has been fine since.
My bike is only three years old so was a bit surprised to be honest but there you go.
If it fails again I would replace it as it can be pretty dangerous with cars behind you…
