I know the simple answer to this, but has anyone had any trouble with telling their insurance company their bike is kept outside London to bring the premium down?
My insurance is extortionate in London, but if I were to say it was registered at my parents address in Cornwall it obviously is significantly lowered. Does anyone do this and think its fine? Or has anyone ever hit difficulty with their insurer when trying to make a claim?
I know the obvious answer is just to take the hit and insure it properly in London (as it is now), but just wondered if anyone had any other opinions
if anything happens they’ll find your registered (billing or driving license) address, your work address and prove that you couldn’t have been commuting from cornwall.
I’ve done this on the past with my car. Only did if for a few months as I was paranoid that my car would get nicked.
I’ve heard of the insurance investigators knocking on neighbours doors asking if its always parked outside (to see if you garage it) and if they ever hear the alarm going off (if you claim you have an alarm) etc.
No, it’s not. Especially now that you’ve broadcast on public media that you’ve thought about doing it!
I need an emoticon for forehead slapping right now.

Since we're a paranoid lot - how do we know he isn't working for an insurance company trying to find out if anyone here has committed fraud?

It would be very difficult to prove that someone wasn't joking around on a forum where aliases are used rather than real names, surely someone could later claim in court that they admitted to it as a bravado post?
The police have access to your insurance right from their computers now too. I was routine checked a month ago and they were confused my addresses were different on insurance to driving licence (I was in the process of changing address) - so they may question you… But it’s your risk to decide whether it’s worth it or not. I know people who do just this and have claimed on their insurance too without a problem
My advice would be not to do it… But like I say, it’s your decision
I would not entertain doing it. It’s illegal, immoral, and the consequences of being caught out, especially after an accident could leave you in a whole world of hurt. I remmeber one of the White Dalton articles mentioned that an insurance company, after paying out on a claim, then chased its own clients for some kind of fraud or lie, and sued the guy, which either cost him house or bankrupt him or both.

Not only that, the police can ring up the MIB and query the address with the Ins Co.
