Insurers, rather than claimant lawyers, are the main cause of rising personal injury claims, according to new research by alternative business structure RJW Slater & Gordon.
A survey of 900 claimants by Ipsos MORI reveals that 65% of claimants were initially contacted by an insurance company about making a claim.
The firm said it commissioned the poll to counter assertions by the Association of British Insurers that insurance premiums are being pushed up by an ‘explosion’ in personal injury claims stimulated by claimant lawyers and claims management companies.
RJW Slater & Gordon chief executive Neil Kinsella accused insurance companies of stigmatising claimants, adding: “It is quite shocking that the insurance industry has been portraying itself as a victim of the increase in personal injury claims, when it has been responsible for encouraging those claims in a clear majority of cases.
“If the insurance companies really want to see an end to the increase in personal injury claims and an end to increased premiums as a result, they can make it happen very easily. They should simply stop actively encouraging people to make those claims.
“The behaviour of the insurance industry in this matter has been quite indefensible. They have sought to demonise claimants on the one hand whilst encouraging those very claims on the other.”
Classic case of pot calling the kettle black, or I can’t remember which way around.
Hands up who has never been contact by an accident claim company promissing a good payout for “your previous accident”?
Yes, they may have received the details from an insurance company, but they paid good money for it, which we’re all paying for in inflated insurance costs.
why, do you think the dog would want to know that sort of thing… or are you just concerned about the standard of Canine Education in Britain today… Colin’s got a job, so it can’t be that bad…
He has a fair point though. Last week the Insurance industry was moaning about how the number of claims have gone up while accidents have reduced, costing them money and trying to shame people into not claiming. But they are quite happy to take the kickbacks from claims companies when they sell them the details in the first place.
The Original Poster for trying to pimp his business in the most blatant and tedious fashion.
Or the Community of this forum for their quite frankly disgusting behaviour.
Get a fucking grip the lot of you.
Anyone coming to this forum to check it out for the first time and looking in this thread is going to think we are an absolutely horrible group of people.
Just give it a rest, if you don’t like what he has to post, then ignore him.
Well my comment is I don’t trust polls, especially those commissioned by firms of lawyers/“alternative business structures”. In any case, what would insurers stand to gain by encouraging people to make personal injury claims?
My personal experience is that I have, several times, been encouraged to make personal injury claims by lawyers, and never once by insurers.
A shame Ipsos MORI didn’t include me amongst its 900 claimants!
They are in this business to make money, a BBC report last year suggested that they get between £500-£900 for every case they sell on to claims management firms. Every claim that is successful will put a dent in the profits of their competitors, forcing them to increase premiums and the potential is there for others to gain from this. And now that it’s all got a bit out of hand and starting to cost the insurance industry, they come together as a group and try to suggest that it’s us, the public, who are taking the piss with claims:satisfied:
