In praise of silk inner gloves

A number of people have mentioned silk inners in the ‘warmest gloves’ thread so I thought I would try a pair. Absolutely brilliant - they make a real difference and do not feel bulky.

I also have a pair of synthetic inners but do not use them as they feel bulky and awkward. I got my silks from Hein Gericke £13. Best to go to the shop and try them on. I take a med/large in gloves but needed XXL in the silks.

Another advantage is that they are thin enought to do most things with them on, so you can wear them to unlock the bike, open the top box , put on your helmet etc. so they keep you warm at times when you could not normally wear gloves.

Why has it taken me two years to discover them?

link please

just search for hein gerrick then view their online store

If only you could get Alpinestars ones. They would be even better

Just keep them away from Velcro.

so what do you get for the extra 8 quid you pay at HG?

Stung ?

decathlon is a good place to get cycle, running gear that are transferable to the biking world:

inner gloves, camel-packs,neck warmers, socks etc etc… really good value

I have a pair of cold killers inners but never found them very good:w00t:

Shame that Decathlon don’t do online ordering, need to go to Surrey Quays tonight to pick a pair up.

Anyone know any other places that might sell these round Farringdon, Blackfriars or down over the bridge in Southwark?

Big running shop around the corner from Holborn tube, Runners Need it is called, but it is on the corner of High Holborn and Proctor. According to their website there is also one at King’s Cross, but I do not know how big that store is.

Got a pair of Silking ones from Sondel’s yesterday, a tenner. Can’t wait to see if they work.

Yeah defo recommend the the silk inners. Got them myself because I can still feel what I’m doing on the bike.

Do they stop bar grip rot?

Silk… Fighter pilots used to wear them under their gloves in WWII to stop the cold in the open cockpits. Useless info for you all there.

+1!

+1 to the Silk liners. They are great when you wear knuckle vented summer gloves to take the sting out of an hour-long 7am ride.

Also, If you’re going in HG to spend £13 on them, try coming out of there with just what you went in for.

Bought some for a fiver on Ebay and they definately made a good difference. Well worth the money.
