Improving track riding, possibly racing?

Hi guys,

I’ve done a few track days that I really enjoyed, and I want to do a load more this year and get some on track tuition, with the pipe dream of entering an amateur race or two.

I’ve heard great things about California, but I’ve also noticed the MSV Track & Race academy, which aims to get people through their ACU and into racing.

Does anyone here race, or has done the ACU stuff at least, and can recommend a route to start off with please?

Really looking forward to the summer

For anyone else, here’s the link I was missing: http://www.bemsee.net

Looks like next year now then!

Ron haslam race school is a good school too. But I don’t like racing I love Poo sticks!!!

Yeah, I saw that, looks like you can only use their bikes though.

Pooh sticks - who doesn’t.

  1. To start racing you need to join club first. I’ve chosen club based on my location and available circuits (closer - cheaper).
  2. When step 1 is done, you’ll need to apply for ACU licence and pass the test. There is no way to **** up the test and it is quite simple.
  3. Get your bike sorted.
  4. Money. It is fucking expensive.

Race weekend including Friday practice cost me

~140 Friday Practice
~260 Race Weekend Entry Fee
~30 Transposder
~220 a pair of scrubs
~140 to hire a van
~100 B&B (2 nights)
~30 garage

~60 fuel
~ food

Per weekend you have 4 races (2 Sat + 2 Sun).
You may race in other classes for ~60 quid extra.

As you can see you can have trackday weekend in Spain for this money ))

All are good.

A trackday might be the same price in Spain but it ain’t racing. Once you add the element of competing it changes everything. Some people hate it, some love it!

Right:))

Actually this is the club I’ve joined :)))

25000 a year is a tight budgit to race the bemsee… everything adds up But learning how to ride first is the best place to start!

You can always measure how competitive you are

just visit the http://www.tsl-timing.com/

and compare your time on specific circuit to lap time from some club race.

I would say everything below 1 minute on Brands Hatch Indy is a good time.

Thanks for the input iLok.

I must admit I was a bit naive - I assumed there would be a ‘road bike’ class where you ‘race’ what you ride up on  (like a slightly more formal track day).

I think this year it will be trackdays then, and some form of tuition and get the ACU licence sorted.

What class do you compete in, MiniTwins seem a great place to start?

I also saw the newcomers class at No Limits: http://www.nolimitstrackdays.com/index.php/no-limits-racing/classes-prizes-etc

Take a look here… http://www.nobudgetcup.co.uk/

I’ve been tempted to dust off my CB1300 and enter that since it’s now eliglible to enter being a 2003… Or maybe my Pan, now that would be a grin… I did a track day on it in 2009, which was all day funny

According to the website all the 2013 races will involve getting a ferry over to the continent, so probably not going to be that much cheaper than doing normal club racing over here.

Wonder whatever happened to the UK series?

No idea, shame though… rules it out for me I think. boo

I’m newbie)) As long as I already have 600cc bike I decided to join Rookie 600 and try myself)
Concerning place to start, IMO it is just for fun, isn’t it ? In this case what ever you comfortable with. It is just my opinion.

Hi, we race in the BSB and film all circuits on race weekends and track days. Take a look at our You Tube channel. You can learn a track before you ride on it. Cheers

I would love to get into road racing (legally that is!) and compete in the NW200 or IOM

Hell yeh!
