Impact of driving convictions on car insurance costs

Interesting, in my experience an SP30/50 hasn’t resulted in anything like a 34% increase on on insuring my bikes, but has had a more significant impact on my car insurance.

I guess the car insurance market has more ‘cherry pickers’ that are only interested in what they see as low risk punters i.e. people with clean licences so likely to be more of an impact.

Same with my brother… we saw a 30% increase on my brother’s policy because of my SP30. I am a named driver on his car policy…

Ridiculous considering how many cameras there are and how easy it is to get done for something that, in many cases, will not be dangerous

Never had it for a car but SP30 made no difference to my bike insurance or SP60 for that matter (when I was using online quote engines, I’d do a quote with and one without). I think the cost starts going up when you have more than one at any time - as in more than 3 points.

Yeah for a motorbike my SP30 and two claimless accidents have had no effect

Presumably those increased costs are for 5 years too.

My only conviction was an SP50 - but I moved to Nigeria for 4 years and never got to declare it on an insurance quote. Bit extreme, but saved me quite a bit by the looks of it.

I’ve had a little experience with various points, PFN’s and insurance companies over the years :w00t:

Insurance companies look back a minimum of 5 years for endorsements. I have found a single 3 point £60.00 PFN endorsement costs me nothing against my premium, two 3 point £60.00 PFN endorsements add about 60%, three 3 point £60.00 PFN endorsements doubled my premium and four 3 point £60.00 PFN endorsements trebled my premium :w00t::w00t::w00t:

Which would appear to support the report 1+2+3+4=10 [3 point FPN endorsements] 60%+100%+200%=360% [added cost to premium] therefore 360/10 = 36% per FPN. i wonder what Mark Twain would make of it all :ermm:

Nonsense, all of it. My mother got a CU-80 for having her phone on loudspeaker on her lap and her insurance renewal was cheaper…

My my…it’s always the quiet ones

Hang on, isn’t the 4th going to be giving your license back to the boys in blue?

Not if the 1st one was over 3 years before the 4th, as although they remain on your licence for 5 years, the points are only valid for totting up purposes for 3 years.
