I’m a relative newbie too and this subject has come up before.
I am definatly not shy - but I find it intimidating turning uo somewhere knowing nobody and seeing a bunch of bikers laughing and joshing with each other - Like the first day at a new school.
Do I go over ?
Will they laugh at me / my bike/ my leathers / my shirt??? ( in my case a definite yes)
Will I get rejected with a sneer for not being a real biker (whatever that means )…NO!
Tips-
Everybody is in the same boat and was a newbie onceThe whole point is top meet each otherWe will all be from different backgrounds and types - thats the fun!We all have differemt tstes in bikes - dittoPick someonew with the same bike as you for starters - break the ice with a ‘How do you find it?’ questionSee if you can spot me on my gorgeous Scram - I’ll alwys say hello.See if you can spot Capn’ Moto on his Supermoto - as above GO on ! you have nothing to loose.
I know it can be difficult for some people but we’re all in the same boat. Just say hi! I arrived on my own and just asked a group i saw if they were anything to do with london bikers. Luckily they were!!
to break the ice, just kick the first person you see wearing yellow in the nuts…make sure they have ginger hair as well or flatout might not be amused…
See if you can spot Capn’ Moto on his Supermoto - as above ???What have I got to do with this?? - If you remember I was the first person that said hi to you when you turned up at the Cubana last week and I told you “hey nice bike” which I meant and you thought I was taking the pi$$, hehe I really meant it.
And here is my 2p worth:
Perhaps if you are a newbie my tip to you is: don’t assume people will muck you even if you turn up on a trike or a CG125, instead I can confide this to you from my heart, the lb’ers are truly a friendly bunch (off line are even better) and they all have their heart in the right place. So delete all the theories in your imagination about a conflict amongst who’s riding what bike, and who fits vs. who doesn’t. It’s all BLX and most of us have respect for the biking gender in general so no prejudice is ever considered.
For me on the cubana meet, I’m still on my L’s and am/will be riding a scooter once I pick the new one up and I look at the pics and see bikes bikes and more bikes and think I would look like a tit and would feel like an outcast until I have a bike.
Hey you lot…dont worry about being a tit, the first time i turned up at Cubana on my own bike (CBR125 - on L Plates) i dropped it with me on it…
Certainly made an entrance and everyone thanked me for “Dropping By That Night” after they had all stopped laughing of course, and Fran bless his heart did ask me if i was alright once my red face had turned more of a pale pink
