This is my first summer as a biker and it’s not as idyllic as the brochures led me to believe it would be!
You’ll get used to it
oh dear, well, - if it was Honda brochures, then i understand ![]()
but tell us some more…

Think of it as a free wash for your bike
@lessismore
Hadn’t thought of that
The amount of water that rain i thought i needed an outboard motor to get through it.
Its a bit wet, for sure…
I did my DAS in the rain, almost every day it rained, U turns, emergency stops, everything was done in the wet, it’s OK with the right clothing.
That’s the problem with buying the dream. In my sailing days, I’d sit wrapped in several layers of thermals, overlaid with waterproofs on a cold night watch thinking “They never show this in the Martini ads.”
On a positive note. I discovered today that my new Frank Thomas waterproofs are. Waterproof, that is.
Despite being dry, I’m still the slowest rain rider in England.
^ Would that be classed as a “wet” dream?.

That is the reason Gore-Tex was invented.
“There’s no such thing as the wrong weather, just the wrong clothing”
Gore-Tex is your friend. Riding in the wet makes you a better rider. You’ll be smoother and more aware of the available grip (or lack of it…)
i did my direct access over easter. it rained, it snowed, it hailed, it shined. i only had jeans then and got cold and wet. but it didn’t matter a jot because it was one of the most fun weeks i’d had in ages. embrace it, it’s more fun being pissed on riding a bike than stuck in a car on a glorious sunny day.
You should have been riding last summer chap, then you would have bought a canoe instead.
Its not all bad, it makes you ride smoothly which will benefit you when the weather dries up.
Its all a learn
As JohnSE1 says. You’ll be smoother in wet. Speed is not everything, it is being constantly smooth and maintaining a good speed. Your economy goes up too! I’ve found when it rains I ride a bit slower, but make the same progress due to being smoother. Works for me.
Ah yes, the wonderful British summertime. 2006 was very nice and 2007 was a bit moist to say the least. So far, this year has been a little better but it still has the knack of catching out at just the right moment.
Like the nice sunny day I set off to work in my lovely perforated and vented 1pc suit, which I then had to use on the way home. There’s nothing quite as bad as the sensation you get as the water that’s saturated your whole body through the perforations then sinks down to form small pools in your boots.
You must have been unlucky. I remember 2006 as a great summer on a great Street Moto.
I’m p*ssed off as I have two jackets. One with lots of nice zippy vents to keep me cool, but leaks like a sieve in the rain, and one that’s pretty damned waterproof, but hot and sweaty.
Why am always wearing the wrong one?
Well today looks like a tester as far as waterproofs and patience is going to be concerend.
Forecast is rain all day and heavy too, I know my old and trusty Alpinestars are on their last legs and I will be a bit damp in places but that’s not too much of an issue. I just don’t look forward to putting on a soggy and cold lid.
More worrying is that I have to take the TL across town to get the power commander set up and it hates the wet, not to mention it’s a bit tricky with all the torque available…focus Dunk…
It’s good to see someone else who knows what a TL is like in the wet;)Take it easy out there today peeps. Especially all you LB Trackdayers.![]()
