I was lucky this evening...

Coming home tonight I had a really close call… The first one since getting my license in July.

In the right hand lane coming round Holland Park roundabout to Shepherd’s Bush Green, there’s the pedestrian crossing. Lights are green but traffic is backed up to the lights. Just past the crossing the lanes open out and you can move right to go 'round onto Uxbridge road.

Anyway, the right hand lane next to the green is open, with cars I can see wanting to go there but unable to do so. I pull up behind a minivan and see half a lane open to his right, so I figure nobody’s moving, but there’s loads of room for me to get through. So I go. As I hit the throttle, minivan decides he’s not waiting and pulls right… Problem is, I’m in the space he’s moving very quickly into. So the inevitable happened… :pinch:

I got lucky though. He had a bit of sense and hit the brakes immediately, as I did. I stayed on the bike and only my left mirror got pushed in. It could have gone horribly wrong, though.

So apart from a big fright and having to re-adjust my mirror - all’s ok!

Good to see nothing bad happened and your alright.

Well done! your quick thinking paid off

Like you say, it can all go wrong very quickly! Well done for not grabbing to hard on the front brake.

Nice recovery . . . how was your bowel movement at the time?

good work keeping it on it’s wheels.

Glad you’re ok. Often it’s best just to hang back and wait as accidents usually happen when bikes appear from unexpected directions and at unexpected speeds. Stay predictable and do not surprise anyone, and you should stay safe(ish).

Well done on keeping her shiney side up hinny! Could have been a lot worse.

Have a wee drink tonight and try not to dwell on it to much!
