I-phone 5, which network is best?

So due for an upgrade and obviously going for an I-phone 5 since I’ve been waiting a whole yr for it! Currently on orange though wondering weather to switch to 3 as they have good good packages at the moment. I don’t want to end up with a crappy phone signal so bit unsure weather is safer to stick with what I know?
Thoughts?

On the serious side, I have no idea myself what 3 and orange are like… but from friends all I know is that 3 has poor coverage but orange has poor customer service. Orange is now partnered with T-mobile so for me it would be going with that. Of course if 3 is offering half the price then I’d probably switch… but if we’re talking to ave maybe 10%, I wouldn’t…

Personally, I don’t do contracts, upgrades or anything of the sort so have been out of the mobile search for a long time. My last mobile lasted me 6 years and since it broke, I’ve used whatever I can find in the house…

im with voda but there are cheaper. O2 offer good deals and 3 have 4G but i dont know how good the coverage is.
The only reason I’m still with Voda is the coverage

I’m with orange too and due an upgrade. Signal is best with orange because of the T-mobile partnership. But the prices they are asking for with the Iphone 5 are a bit steep. I mean paying up to £200 for the phone for a 24 month contract is nuts. I might wait a few months when the prices hopefully drop a bit.

If your looking to get the most out of you 5 using the 4g network Tmobile/orange is the only way to go. Tmobile is slowly moving over onto Oranges network which should eventually offer the best service in the UK and the only one using 4g to start of with.

Yes they’ll have 4G a year before everyone else so I’ve heard…And their internal comms team are all totally hot. I’ve had some work at their offices.

I have been with orange for about 20 years now . Never had any customer service issues . I have no idea what contract I have how much it costs or how much minutes I get etc , but it always works and always fast on the net .

Yes, but are they any good at their jobs?

I’ve have two phones on 3 (one or my son) no issue with 3G signal at all in and around London or major cities. Found it crap in Cornwall etc.

However, they raise your fixed fee each year (annual PV), so based on that contractual underhand hidden extra. I’m canceling both contracts, once out of the fixed term! Yes I know (should of read the small print) but who does?

that ad is frigging hilarious!

The iPhone 5 is already so outdated. Get the S3… Probably cheaper too.

I’m assuming you’ve got those backwards. I have both SIM’s but don’t bother with Orange since too often I can’t get any data at all IN CENTRAL LONDON! Really Orange?!?! They also limit their upload speed. You might think this doesn’t matter, maybe you don’t upload much. Try uploading a large file on your PC and then browse the web. It seriously slows everything down.

My own Speed tests

Erm, n. 3 don’t have 4G. EE have 4G, but I assume it will cost extra and knowing them, it will be capped at something silly like 1 or 2 gig. Also, if you don’t use 1 gig of data, you probably don’t need 4g.

I would wait to see details of 4G plans before you decide to go that route. I wouldn’t be too surprised if they cap upload speed on 4G too.

They were allowed to use spare spectrum from their merger, much to the surprise and annoyances of the other providers. Myself, I think 3 will still be the way to go. You might have to wait 8-10 months, but I think their’s will be much better when it does come out.

I would tend to agree with this, but also tend not to bother trying to pursued someone that has already decided they want an iPhone.

This is all I have heard from friends… My only experience with Orange when I was living in a house with flatmates years and years ago and the person who owned the house had Orange… It was diabolical.

I’m going to butt out of this conversation because I really have not spent that much time looking at networks/ handsets etc…

I’m on Orange and it’s got better over the last year since assimilating the T-Moile network, but sometimes I still can’t use 3G even if I supposedly have a full signal and and the 3G icon. I can’t get proper reception in my own home (NW11). I was also told by Orange customer services that the iPhone is incapable of switching between 2G and 3G depending on which has the better signal. Meaning that I have to remember to manually switch of 3G to get a decent signal every time I’m at home. My girlfriend recently switched to Three and hasn’t had any problems with signal coverage, except in areas where no-one seems to get signal anyway.

You’re getting an iPhone 5 and wondering about value for money?

I assume the move from iPhone 4 something to 5 meant that you can actually get a signal now without looking like you’re doing some sort of mason handshake with it?

But don’t mind me, please carry on.

+1, you can replace the word ‘Probably’ with ‘Definitely’…and it has satnav that works

Bit of T-Cut will sort that out…

Well whatever network you get, make sure you get a case that floats…
