I need a new lid; what do you recommend

Since I dropped my Shark S900 a couple weeks ago and bent the sun visor lever it’s become increasingly annoying. So what lids do you lads and ladettes sport? What would you buy if you were buying one now?

Budget’s not too important, but a decent SHARP rating and a lack of OTT logos is.

I like the Caberg Trip/Konda. Had one for three years. 5* sharp rating and £120ish.

Hmm… Not too hot on the flip-faces…

Got an Arai Quantum and I would have another one …

That’s quite nice, bit of a piggybank raider though. How quiet is it?

best advice is buy something that fits properly. personally, I have never put much stock in the SHARP rating system as it is only ever carried out at specific points on the helmet. therefore you can make a helmet to pass the test cheaply. I had a shark as my first lid and thought it was fookin awful. worn ARAI ever since. had a couple of big off’s with them, nearly all involving a big hit to the head. I wouldn’t put my head in anything else. as for the noise of a helmet, if you are doing any regular riding above 60mph, you need to be using ear plugs for the sake of your hearing anyway

Aye, well I’ll give the Quantum a look in, then. Find a dealer, try it on and buy online if it fits.

Anyone used this dealer?

Seems too good to be true…

My vote would be for the Shoei XR-1100. Widely available online and in the shops, well ventilated, comes with a pinlock visor so it doesn’t mist up, good range of colour schemes. I’ve used one for two years and thousands of mile now.

I’m selling my SHOEI on ebay. 100% never droped or damaged. Didn’t have a bike so hardly used http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Shoei-XR-1100-HadronTC-6-WHITE-BLACK-/300710303404?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Helmets&hash=item4603bb16ac

Best advise is buy one that fits your head. Helmet City usually have some great offers on lids. I’ve got a Shoei X-Spirit from them. It’s a fantastic lid, spec wise it’s about the best you can get. Doesn’t mean you can’t get a good deal on one though.

X-Lite X802, 1300g only, very light and comfortable, racers wear exactly same one at WSBK and Motogp so that tells the safety, and its on sale on ebay, u can get a brand new with genuine dark visor for about £300-340, I bought mine from www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk

I’ve just got a Shoei XR-1100.

I was going to go for an Arai Chaser, but the sales chap said I didn’t have an Arai shaped head :frowning:

It seems I do have a Shoei head though. Anyway, as you know, you have to try them on first for fit.

I would also check out HelmetCity. I didn’t buy mine from there (wish I would have since it’s a fair bit cheaper!). Nice staff, and nice roads too

Somehow I managed to miss the original thread  but AGV GP tech for comfort and designs. Pic please!

I’m about to order a XR1100 I think…

This is the one I like the best -

But this one on offer at about £150 less on offer at HelmetCity is probably what I’ll go for -

Shoei, AGV, Arai or Schuberth consider looking at the HJC R-PHA/FG15-good lid.

anything else isnt worth buying!

The GF just treated me to a lovely new Schuberth S2 for my birthday, very nice it is too.

they are good, i want the matt white/black vents SR1..ooooh yes please!
