I just looked at my insurance.

Take your dad’s advice and stop complaining.

tpo for my dt 125 is £550 tpft is around £950 so £400 more a year, this is my second year insuring the dt so i would of payed £800 more over the 2 years for tpft. i payed £720 for the bike and over the years that extra £400 builds up and up and up and don’t forget if it gets stolen you lose your ncb so then insuring your next bike costs more. if its £40-100 more then tpo then its worth it but over £200 not happening lol

tpft for me lands around £450 with 1 year NCB for the YBR. You must be in some real bad postcode with a sportbike!

At the end of the day you have weigh up your demands and needs against the cost.

Fully Comp, TPFT, TPO:

You really should only go for fully comp if you have a high value bike where parts etc are expensive to replace. I know my bike is now worth around £2500. If Full Comp insurance is £1000 thats half the value of bike not to mention the excess that may come with it. If fully comp is at a reasonable price against the bike value and the excesses are good then take it. If not TPFT is perfectly suitable.

Excesses:

I was quoted by MCE £530 with all the extras thrown in for free, legal expenses, leathers cover, breakdown etc. But for a whopping great £1300 excess. This is a false economy even though I get leathers cover my leathers and kit are worth around the £1300 excess so I’ll basically be covering them myself. Instead a paid an extra £30 for excess protection (i.e. nil excess) and dropped the extra covers. If you can take a higher excess then do but again remember the ratio between the value of the bike and how much you have to pay out if it were to be stolen.

Insurance is a pain in the hole and expensive but at the end of the day it is there to protect you. Anyone who has been hit by an uninsured driver will understand how essential it is.

I recommend the website www.tiger.co.uk for comparisson prices. This was recommended to me by a fellow broker and no other site have been able to beat their quotes for me and some friends.

E1 with a 2011 YBR

Go Compare is providing me with a price for TPFT of £1153

Tiger couldnt provide a quote…

SE15 with a 2007 here… your quote sounds astronomical… I have mine with MCE though.

what is even more depressing is that for whatever reason UK just doesn’t want to print notes with a higher value than £50 quid…
could have all that sorted with two notes and be done with it ^^

on another note, is your bike garaged and/or has a insurance-approved alarm/immobiliser?

and London’s generally more expensive for insurances
Also, didn’t you have an off not so long ago? did you report that to your insurance? may be yet another reason for theft premium increase.

Garaged with an Almax

I’ve not spoken to Lexham EVER. The policy was set up by metropolis when I bought it. Fuckers didnt even send me proof of no claims so MCE had to go looking.

i changed mine to mce a few weeks ago, 30 yr old, 1000cc fz1 - £205 fully comp

three things that dont help:

  • young age
  • lack of experience
  • london address

I can beat that

thats disgusting, my bandit 12 is £120 fully comp all year!!!
