I have joined the 21st century... sort of

I finally got a smartphone… well ok it’s a Nokia X6 Symbian hand-me-down so not really that smart but I can finally access the internet on it! :smiley:

The one thing I have found so useful is creating maps (loads of maps - as I have loads of time on my sick leave!) on the nokia map app and then synching them to the satnav on the phone with the click of a button. My god who knew? :w00t:

Now I’m on the hunt for a waterproof case for it… Looked at the RAM solutions but might be a bit pricey (well a lot more than what the phone cost me) as well as not seeming to make one for the GSR… I know a few of you use phones as sat nav so tell me… what case and mount so I get to do it?

Also had a look at that So Easy Rider mount but I’m not sure I like the idea of velcroing my phone… Or am I being paranoid?

Get a bicycle satnav mount like I did. Works at all speeds :slight_smile: I just put a little kitchen sponge behind it to,stop moving about. £15 delivered

Sorry mate, that’s not the 21st Century… it’s maybe 1998, so getting close :stuck_out_tongue:

Things that modern phones will do may well blow your mind then.

I just plug earphones in and get the instructions, phone stays in my pocket, works fine, although be prepared for some odd pronunciation.

Something like this? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kit-Resistant-Bicycle-Motorbike-smartphone/dp/B005OIDIAC/ref=pd_sim_sbs_sg_3

None of these though seem to have holes for headphones or power…

@Andy - yeah I know it’s old school but I really am not that much into upgrading my phone just to have the latest thing - I think it’s wasting money for pointless upgrades. I’ve had my sony Ericsson w810 and Nokia 6303 (I think) for years and been very happy. The one thing that these phones do 10 times better than any smartphone is battery length and for me that’s much more important than being able to access my e-mails… Luckily my dad does not share my opinions so when he upgrades I just inherit his old phone :smiley:

Bluetooth helmet, and a small enduro tankbag so I can see the phone’s screen…

You’re being paranoid :smiley: I’ve got the So Easy GPS mount and it’s brilliant. The velcro strap is almost a foot long and very secure one it’s on, never had it budge

yeah but that’s if you use it in ‘landscape’… I want to use it in portrait which means you only velcro a bit on

get the waterproof bag that me and Jaime used to use

Which one is that?

hmmm good point I haven’t tried mine in portrait mode, I’ll try it out of interest see how it holds. No idea about their smart phone case though

I’m not a huge fan of Things-That-Do-Lots-of-Things.

I like to get Stuff-That-Does-One-Thing-Well.

So I have:

Samsung Galaxy -for phone calls and texts;
Kindle -for reading books;
TomTom Rider -for SatNav.

Mounts? Aint got clue.

Weatherproofing? Kitchen cling file.

(Or a condom, but try to find the non-lubed ones.)

zip lock sandwhich bag and gaffer tape! cheap but effective.
